2011 Magura Lever Leak.

got some 2011 maggys, had them about 2 months, i thought they were fine at first, i kept finding tiny oil patches inside the plastic cover etc, but i thought it was just a little fluid maybe coming from the ebt drill thing.

but i sent my forks away to have the mounts straightened by tartys, got them back, put the bike all back together, went for a ride, and found a few dobs of fluid on the frame and stem etc. gave it a new bleed this morning and then had another short ride, same again.

its definatley coming from the lever, when its squeezed you can see some fluid welling up in the gaps in the lever.

the hose is on the barb fitting perfect, and the barb fitting is screwed into the lever perfect.

what do you guys reckon? send back to tartys on warranty for a replacement?

yeah i may swap back to the old style hs33's if a replacement lever doesn't work. why they changed the design for 2011 i dont know. they were fine as they were.

i thought.. ooh 2011. surely better than 2010... epic fail.

i like the brakes though, when they work they're great, design looks good and strong as hell.

shame really haha.

How can you tell?

Swelling of the pistons and maybe some degradation of the seals I would imagine? That and the fact that anyone who can't look after Maguras enough to the point where they need to warranty them probably wouldn't even flush all the water out...

Hmm, but the swelling doesn't take place immediately else no water bleeds would work, and opening up a brake to check what's in it doesn't seem like something you'd do.

Lol surely them opening the brake to check for swelled pistons would void the warranty anyway? I presume the warranty is with magura themaelves and not tarty?

You think that maybe an authorised distributor might not have a little bit more authority than Joe Public? Having to send every brake back to Germany would be ridiculously stupid. Plus, Adam has said they can tell, and you definitely can't tell from the outside can you?
