Would This Be Alright To Use As Brake Fluid?

My motorbike has a hydraulic clutch (magura, used on KTM's husabergs etc.) and i can only use mineral oil.

I've just bought the oil I need (putoline mineral hydraulic clutch fluid) for £4 for 100ml, which is a lot cheaper than royal blood. Just an idea but would it be alright to use as brake fluid in my HS33? I'm not keen on the water idea and royal blood is a lot of money so I night kill 2 birds with one stone and use this?

Just because it seems a little controversial with some saying never do it and others swearing by it. Plus I'm always weary with anti-freeze on paintwork and stuff (does some damage in my experience) and I wouldn't like to use just water because of the freezing issue by I wouldn't like anti-freeze in there too.

Also, it feels strange because I try so hard to keep any moisture out my motorbike brakes and then filling the whole system with water would just seem wrong lol. I know it's alright in trials because they don't get warm at all but it feels wrong lol.

You could try it on the putoline, you might find its a bit thick though. Im currently using machine tool suds mixed 1:1 with water and its working very well, I suffer from sticky pistons alot if I use plain water because my slaves are over 13 years old now :)

Whats machine tool suds? Cutting fluid? The water soluble white stuff? Got gallons of that at work, would be nice to know theres some oil in there for piece of mind, again doesnt feel kosher to me either putting neat water in, back on point though, mineral oil can really attack some types of seals, i recently tried in my hopes and all the seals lost rigidity and stretched, as if theyre latex seals? Ive heard maggie seals are pretty particular to what they drink too

Cutting fluid is the stuff, mines a reddish pink before you dilute it, mix it 1:1 with water and it goes pink. I tried with the neat oil, but found it a touch heavy for my liking, a 1:1 mix gives a feeling pretty much identical to water but obviously the pistons and seals are being lubricated with oil.

The seals on hs33 are meant for use with mineral oil, the seals on hopes are meant for dot fluid.

The reason I want to try it is because my clutch is magura and it's really particular about oil and will only use this type, so I'm thinking the brakes may be similar?

IIRC some of the magura clutches take mineral and some take dot dont they? As long as yours takes mineral then theres no reason to not use the putoline, as I said though it might be a bit thick for the small bore pipework on an HS33.

Yeah mine takes mineral only so that's good. It may be, although my clutch lines are only small and I have no problems with that and it's super light. Suppose the only thing to do is try it. Aslong as it won't hurt it I'll give it a go.

As long as its mineral then it shouldnt do any damage, magura themselves even say that you can use any mineral oil (cooking oil was an example used) to bleed the brakes in case of emergency, naturally they do recommend a full flush and rebleed with blood but then they would do :)

I can see me running a cutting fluid bath for my maggies next week at work! Thanks, wouldlove a bit more bite on my hs33, yea its red till its goes 3:1 ish then goes white? 1:1 sounds good, thanks!
