Leistonbmx
But is the helicoil size it states on the packet the outside as in what I'd drill and tap it to then put the helicoil in or is it the inside of the helicoil?

Helicoils are sized by the thread they are replacing, ie: the internal not the external. You will need the specific drill bit and tap for the inserts but they should be included if youre buying a kit.
Leistonbmx
So a M6x1.00 will be what I need yeah? thought so but checking doesn't harm.

Leistonbmx
If you could find them I'd buy a few. Only need one ideally which makes buying a whole pack a bit pointless. Pretty sure we have a helicoil kit somewhere.
AdamR28
Pretty cheap: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/M6-X-1-0-HELICOIL-THREAD-INSERTS-1-5D-/270741495578?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f09735f1a

Ill dig the kit out and see how many inserts Ive got left
dave33
forget about helicoils they are only a last resort, much better off with a thread incert. you can get m6 ones which are 7.8 dia, i use them im work now and again and they are 1oo times better than a helicoil.. here is tthe idea, but these are m10 10mm dia so only good if you have enought material around the thread My link
