alex-trials-boy
Hey guys got a new rear wheel 2 weeks ago from tarty looked good to begin with with till i put it on and applied the brakes. NEw V!Z square hole rim med. gring TNN beleay pads thought it would need to 'bed' in, but there still realy bad. the bite aint overly good but the hold is poor, i've tried using TNN CRM pads, makes a good noise eats the pad alive but still terrible just wacked on one rock blue and one koxx brown i asume they need to bed in but still uber bad, also the grind (2weeks old) is almost smooth bad rim choice? when i ran my beleay's on my alex rim they were spot on? needed a grind bout every month any help appreciated, Thanks, Alex. Ali C
sounds like your grind is too harsh, TNN pads are best on a nice light grind, then they almost work like tar.

But my grind is just about smooth they're still bad and to be fair dont you think the grind wore down abit fast?
dirt jumper jake
Ive seen that viz rims are rather shit for holding grinds, and i also witnessed today a pair of tnn crms completely melt and dissapear so there not exactly the best either. But beleays are tank pads, so your obviously doing something wrong

Ok then i'll do a fresh light gring then are v1z rims not good then at holding grinds?

craigjames
Mine was awful for holding a grind too. Harsh or light, with heatsink yellows, cousts or koxx browns it would last a day or two riding.

alex-trials-boy
Would i be best just to use some Heatsink yellows and continue on a dead grind (damon w) is using them on a smooth rim

Although nearly all pads work amazing with tar the yellows do seem to be slightly better after riding a few bikes today with smooth, tar'd rims and different pads. isitafox
Yellows on a smooth rim without tar are immense, though lethal the second moisture hits the wheel though a bit of on and off braking soon sorts that out. I run yellows with a smooth rim up front on my stock and have never bothered with tar!
TrialsMan Dan
any tips for getting a grind to last longer, im grinding my rim once a month every month, i have had my new wheels since Christmas and ive done 3 or 4 'proper' grinds and the last time was about 2 weeks ago that was just a light freshen or 'condition' if you like for a comp. I run Heatsink yellows and they work amazing on a light/medium grind but after about 4 weeks the performance reduces dramatically and lack bite or hold and is a nightmare when it gets hot or if im riding in dusty conditions, im at that stage right now and treating it like a smooth rim like making sure the rim is clean and cleaning the pads, im reluctant to grind any more as i'll just be wasting my expensive wheel. Ive heard people having a grind last 3 years, how on earth do they do it?
