supafly1982
Hi all, im looking to try out Trials, i normaly ride XC and love tackling mad drops and objects, not that im great or anything, i just find it fun. When i have seen guys hopping objects with ease ive always thought, wow i want to try that out, so the time has come! I would like advice on what to look for when buying second hand, im guessing this will give me "bang for buck" at the max considering my budget would be £250, ive spent way too much money on bikes this year and ive got a kid due any day so i dont even dare spend more! I would like to stick with stock as i want to keep the feel of my current bike without upsetting my balance too much. cheers scott
Endohopper
If your current bike's a hardtail it should already be ideally suited to learning the basics and improving your general balance whilst you shop around . Occasionally some killer deals surface in our For Sale forum , keep an eye out !
isitafox
As above, if you want a bike then keep an eye out in the for sale section for a cheap deal or if you want to buy new then check out a MAD Phase 1.1 or preferably 1.2. They're great starter bikes, very cheap to buy and the frames are perfect for upgrading the spec on!

isitafox
Yeah stocks are for real men and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!! Just start with the basics of trackstands and shifting your weight riding up and off large steps. Backhopping and getting your balance point whilst doing them is the next step I'd say, you really want to get it so your quite stable on the rear wheel and can hop indefinately as a lot of trials utilises rear wheel hops. After that it'd be pedal kicking when backhopping but that may take a while if your new to trials. For some good tips and guides take a look at trashzen! Also remember that picking stuff up doesn't happen overnight, can take weeks or months depending how often you get out. If you can try and hook up with a group ride near where you live to get some pointers and advice first hand!
