Echo Sl Rear Wheel

Was just wondering,

I'm currently running an Echo SL 26" rear wheel, full echo wheel.

I keep finding that the spokes wont hold their tension and the nipples slacken off,

The rim dents easily,

and the wheel will buckle easily if you go for anything big.

And this is when the wheel has been trued, and all the spokes have been correctly tensioned

This is far from ideal with the type of riding I do. I've never had any problem with any of the Echo SL range, so I was just wondering if its just my wheel,

or have others had a similar/ same experience?

Would like to hear your experiences.

Thanks

Sam

TGS lol.

Have to admit I'm a little bit of a harsh rider :(

Which is why I was hoping for a strong wheel.

Anyway, after bailing of a high wall tonight, both front and rear SL wheels are now buckled badly. 4 snapped spokes and nipples up front, and

a badly deformed rear.

Both are getting rebuilt with either steel or double butted alloy spokes as against the crap ones echo supply.

Aren't most spokes steel? Alu spokes would be pretty snap happy :P

You were aware that the SL stood for "Super Light" or some shiz, right? Not the best bet if you're a heavy rider. Have you considered switching to the TR rims or something a bit more solid?

I got the wheels as part of a swap, so I wasn't going to complain :)

And yes I knew they would have to be replaced at some point, I just didn't expect to have to do so soon.

And I have no idea why I suggested alloy spokes. Mine are currently steel, albeit very thin ones.

This build sound ok?

Front;

Echo TR rim

plain gauge spokes

SL hub

Rear;

Trialtech Undrilled rim

Double Butted spokes

What spokes are you using?

I've been having trouble lately with Sapim spokes, they just seem way too brittle. I managed to snap two of them today.

Maybe its worth changing spokes? I'm going to bang an order on for some DT ones now.

lol doing something wrong if you are snapping Sapins. I swear by them, neve snapped one in 7? years I have been using them.

Plain gauge spokes won't really make much difference to the strength of the build at all. Get a double wall rim, butted spokes and get it built by someone who is known for being able to build a good strong wheel.

If you're still breaking stuff, then it's your riding at fault.

Not doing anything wrong at all :turned: Possibly a bad batch?

I've used DT since I started riding, been building wheels with them for about 6 years, never any trouble.

I did rebuild the wheel to make sure it wasn't the build, but the issue is still there.

I must have been pretty unlucky then.

The wheels are being trued today and the bike is going back to the guy I swapped with.

In all fairness, it was a big bail, and the bike did land hard and bounce off both wheels.

Should all be fine :)

The wheels on the Zoo are strong as.

Trialtech Sport Rear

Sapim DB spokes

Echo TR hub

Trialtech sport front

Sapim DB spokes

Hope Pro 2

:D
