Miles Mallinson
I think its a 1 inch star nut you need, you can ge them from halfords I think or Tarty the smallest size should fit but a medium size also does.

Rex-Geo
well it turned out a disaster, tried a medium star nut, everything was going fine than it snapped in half Edited April 23, 2011 by Rex-Geo
Miles Mallinson
See when you were installing it, if your not using a proper tool you should bend the lower part of the star nut so it sits in the steerer tube properly. Did you get it from halfords?
Rex-Geo
yeah i bent the lower part and i was half way through installing it, then the top half split. I bought it from nearby shop called iron horse cyclery. But all is fine now, i borrowed a large top cap from a friend and i knew it was way too big, so i cut down the bits of metal and it sits in the steerer tube like a dream, just put the top cap on and its all fine now.
