Ive recently moved to stock and this is my first frame with virtical dropouts.

I dont know if sprung or fixed is better?

I dont want some beefy thing. More minimal and closer to the chain stay the better!

Thanks, Carl

I used to use a Trialtech sprung tensioner on my Zenith. Just took the pin out of it and put a washer over the bolt so you could tuck it right up under the chainstay to stop it getting bashed and keep the chain nice and tight with loads of wrap!

EDIT: Just looked at the Ozonys one and that looks like it doesn't have a pin so that could be the way forward as won't require modding it.

On the back of the Trialtech and I assume some other tensioners there's a little pin sticking out which sits behind a notch on the mech hanger on the frame, this is what gives the spring in the mech the tension as it pulls against the pin but it means the tensioner tends to sit fairly vertical. If you take the pin out you can turn the tensioner round so it can be pulled tight by the chain to sit right up into the chainstay though the design of where the mount is on the ozonys tensioner makes it appear it has no pin whereas if you look at the trialtech there's a bit of plastic below the bolt where the pin is recessed into. If you understand, I would post some pics but the works server is currently running like a bag of w**k so it's taking me ages to just write this!

Here's a pic of my zona with the tensioner pretty low down as it still had the pin in and the chain wrap was crap. I removed the pin on the back of the tensioner just below the mounting bolt and had it so the tensioner was tucked right up into the chainstay, will try and find a pic of that if you want??

That would be great yes, but I think I understand.

Do fixed tensioners not work very well then. I notice theres only 2 of them for sale on tarty which isn't a good sign.

Such as THIS
