Themistoklidis
I need to buy some new cranks for my inspired, and i was thinking about bmx cranks...I had problems with most of my trial bb's/cranks as they dont last very long.On the other hand though,my cranks on my bmx have taken so much abuse but they are still in mint condition...I noticed that many bmx cranks come with a bb spindle,as the bearings are pressed into the bb shell on bmx frames. Is there a way to fit these ( http://www.empirebmx.com/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6143 )onto my frame? Thanks,Themis. EDIT: I found this: http://www.empirebmx.com/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6977 .This could work, but are the cranks any good for trial after all? sstein
It is doable but it will be crap for trials. If you want something that will last get a set of isis middleburns and a decent isis bb

If you want something that will last get a set of isis middleburns and a decent isis bb Why?The forces that go through a bmx bb are similar to street trials...I just feel that my cranks on my inspired are flexy compared to my bmx,and it feels like the power i apply to the cranks during a strong pedal kick doesn't go all the way to the wheel...They just feel too flexy! ( i have a reset titanium bb and some try all cranks ) Edited April 21, 2011 by BikeTrialsInGreece
sstein
For one the bb axle is too narrow so you are only just going to get clearence (if they do not catch that is). it is hard to find a small enough bash for bmx cranks. you get major tight spots. What If i use a trials bb?Or get a bigger axxle?I dont really care about a bashring,i dont get the last part though... (Thanks for your fast replies!) sstein
bmx cranks use their own bb axle and it is a standard width designed for use on a bmx. it may fit but may not. as for the tight spots what that is is where the chainring is not perfectly centred and as you peddle the chain goes loose and then tight. Revolver
If you can get a 'euro' BB that fits your BMX BB axle, then you can fit BMX cranks to an MTB or trials bike.

Do you mean like this one? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=53553 And what do you suggest, should i go for it or stick with trials cranks? Ali C
if you got some profiles you could get a slightly longer axle and use some "no boss" 22t sprockets, will be very strong, very stiff and not all that heavy either.

Only if you're either doing it wrong, or have a rubbish sprocket/top hat spacer. The setup on my BMX is almost perfect - certainly a lot better than about 90% of screw-on setups. Mark W
Tight spots (well, both realistically speaking...).
sstein
Tight spots (well, both realistically speaking...). fair enough. I would not know about ffw setups but i have always found bmx cranks to have more tightspot problems than 4 bolts or burns. as for the clearance it just depends on the actual cranks i guess. I know my fireeye ones would not have the clearance but other ones i have used would work.
