Repairing Maxxis Flyweight Tubes

Greetings

Recommended Posts

I'm running Maxxis flyweight tubes at the moment and while they're pretty puncture resistant considering their weight, they are impossible to repair. I hear this is fairly common.

Has anyone found a way of repairing these tubes? The problem is that patches no matter how good do not hold.

I though of dipping them in petrol for a few minutes to clean theslippery substance they're coated with off. Then again I'm not sure convinced that this substance is what's causing the problem.

I had a lightweight maxxis tube in the front (BJH gave it to me on a ride because he couldnt be arsed to repair a thorn hole), I patched it as normal and it was fine. Even pinched it a couple of times and it patched ok; unfortunately one of the pinches was on a seam and the patch eventually peeled. I dont know if its a flyweight but it only weighs about 95g.
