Azarathal
As the title says, I'm after alternatives to Tarty for spokes. For my own reasons I'm fed up of such a simple order becoming complicated.
Mikee
As the title says, I'm after alternatives to Tarty for spokes. For my own reasons I'm fed up of such a simple order becoming complicated. Why complicated? Alternatively you could take your rim and hub to a bike shop and they could work out the spoke length and supply you with them.
trials owns
As the title says, I'm after alternatives to Tarty for spokes. For my own reasons I'm fed up of such a simple order becoming complicated. why is it complicated?? all spokes are different lengths...........if u order some spokes that arnt cut down,it would be even more complicated cutting and measuring them than just specifying what rim and hub u have......... EDIT; BEATEN LOL Edited April 16, 2011 by trials owns
Azarathal
First set of spokes I ordered I didn't specify which lacing pattern I wanted. Instead of calling me they defaulted to 2x which annoyed me, yes it works but it isn't the point, when crucial information is left out you don't just "go ahead". Second set I ordered in black and received them in plain silver. Obviously this is because they were out of stock of black but again, no call and not even a small note explaining. Because on both occasions I've needed the wheels to be built asap I didn't send the spokes back and I'm now stuck with it.
Ash-Kennard
im surprised you got this trough tarty, im sure if you ring them they will sort you out, but if you dont want to use them anymore, there is always chainreactioncycles

ForrestDump
You could cut and thread your own, then you've only got yourself to blame if it didn’t end up how you wanted.
Azarathal
If it was that important, why didn't you specify? Because I forgot to on this one occasion, I sent them a follow up email which they apparently never received (I believe them) and even though I forgot to specify it's something that should be confirmed. I know people have mentioned CRC, will they stock spokes that short?
AdamR28
First set blah blah. Second set I ordered in black and received them in plain silver. Obviously this is because they were out of stock of black but again, no call and not even a small note explaining. First set - I can't believe you're still moaning about that, lol. 2x works fine on the front of 20" bikes and has done on hundreds of bikes for the past 10 years or more. It's easier to lace than 3x anyway. Second set - that is a genuine mistake, my apologies. Last week was pretty nuts, mega rush with East holidays and good weather! Please send them back and we will return black to you and pay your postage costs for getting the silver ones back to us. Returns form is here: http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/pages/terms_and_conditions.html#returns We really don't seem to see eye to eye about spokes, haha, so it would probably be better for both of us if you ordered elsewhere in future actually Edit: I've got my "it's a sunny Sunday afternoon and I've had a good weekend so I don't give a crap until the bedlam starts again at 9am tomorrow morning" head on, so that probably comes across all wrong - sorry. Joe Papasnap Maher
To be fair, if you didnt specify, and tarty sent out what they feel is recommended, you cant really complain.
Danfoss - BANNED
I though Tarty without spec of a lace pattern would go for 3X from word go. Most place would as this is the norm and std. I've had the 1 ocasion where spokes were too long. It was a random setup and luck of the draw. Quick mail to Adam he sent a 2nd set out and i returned the ones next day. This is someone thats done wheel builds for over 15 years, all of us pretty much have one of his wheels in our lifetime. Out of the massive number of us i haven't read of problems. BMX shop is your only option for 20'' but personly i;d suck it up, say sorry to Adam and reorder making sure you fully spec out. Errors happen, when your sending over 100 items its easy too happen but they dont happen often and you got a public appology from the dude! Azarathal
Well I'm sorry Adam, I know mistakes happen and whereas you've had a good weekend, I certainly haven't, rear hope I got off of a member on here pissed fluid out of the banjo bolt ruining my new pads before I'd even ridden trials, so far a £60 bargain has turned into a £100+ piss take. No chance of sending the spokes back, I had to make do as I was supposed to be riding Today and tomorrow. I won't need spokes for a good while now as I've got my new wheels sorted but next time I'll just double check I've left all required information. Again, I'm sorry for making such a big deal out of it.
AdamR28
The only thing that makes me sad is you no longer stock sapim double butted motherf**kers. They had to be custom made by Sapim for us - with a 6-8 week lead time. Predicting stock levels was a nightmare, as soon as you run out of one length you might as well not have any at all, sod's law dictates everyone will keep needing the lengths you don't have Oh and they had to be bought in boxes of 500 (8 boxes to cover all the lengths needed) and didn't sell all that well Mike - bummer, sorry to hear about that! Still happy to take the spokes back if you have the time/inclination to de-lace and rebuild the wheel, just let me know
Azarathal
I'll leave the wheel as it is, thanks for the offer anyway. I think this is going to be a massive longshot but I'll shoot anyway. As the pads were on the bike for less than 30mins is there any sort of returns on it? Or am I stuck with the contaminated pads? Greetings
I always call if the matter is slightly more difficult than just ordering a bunch of parts. It's so much easier and you're in for a nice chat too. I think people need to learn the significance a telephone call to a store can have on the way the order is processed.
