Luke Rainbird
Personal drunken thoughts: Ties can do one - you're not over 50 so f**k that. Smart trousers (dark coloured, preferably black or near enough) are the way forward. Wear a shirt with this, as not wearing a shirt would leave the nipples exposed and for 93.2% of jobs this is not acceptable. A shirt with no tie, in addition to aforementioned trousers and some smart shoes will be the whole "slightly smarter than smart casual type of smart" which will not only give a decent first impression, but generally be pimp as f**k (ok, maybe not in your case but we'll let that slide a little for now) and give off the right kind of vibe. Going in a polo or hoodie/trainers will basically make you look a willy, which you want to avoid as much as possible, if you hadn't already figured. Do some research, know your shit when it comes to what the company is all about and how they work, and you can't go far wrong. Oh, and have a couple of questions lined up to ask too. There'll always be the "Do you have any questions?" part in an interview and having something to ask shows not only that you're an inquisitive young fellow, but also helps you to stand out from 99% of the people who you'll be up against. Standing out is good as it makes you more memorable, in the same way that it's ridiculously easy to pull a chick having started the conversation with "So why on earth did you wear those horrendous shoes tonight" as opposed to starting with "can I buy you a drink" or "I really like your retinas". On the other hand, you could ignore this completely and not get the job. Your shout...
dann2707
Don't f**k off ties. A nice skinny black tie when pulled off well looks the tits!
Luke Rainbird
F**k off ties. A nice skinny black tie when pulled off wrong will make you look a tit! Skinny ties are freakin' retarded. Do it properly or don't do it at all - half arsed attempts won't get you anywhere.
MadManMike
The office world is dominated by fat ties. I wear skinny ties in a pathetic attempt to not look like all the other clones. I like skinny ties and slim fitting shirts

What a load of twoddle. A fitted white shirt, black skinny tie and some decent trousers shows style and sophistication imo.

Simpson
The office world is dominated by fat ties. I wear skinny ties in a pathetic attempt to not look like all the other clones. I like skinny ties and slim fitting shirts f**k that! I stand out in my office I didnt wear a tie, and stuck to pumps =p Although one day I did have to go to this important interveiw, and didnt know i was before I got to work! I was un-shaven for a week, in tatty trainers, some jeans and an inappropriate tee shirt. Moral of the story be prepared to go and meet someone important everyday at work! haha
MadManMike
f**k that! I stand out in my office I didnt wear a tie, and stuck to pumps =p Given the chance I would do that, but I'd get sacked... So my only option is to stay within the rules but bend them as much as possible, ie semi-casual shirt but still smart enough to be classed as formal, and a tie that's skinny and different to the rest, yet still a tie
Luke Rainbird
Oh, don't get me wrong a shirt has to be fitted or it's worthless. Skinny ties just make you look like your indie band has failed and you're applying for anything the job centre can throw at you though. Muel
Depends entirely on the interviewer. Best thing to do IMO is just to ask them. I did the other day, and the guy said they'd probably laugh at me if I suited up.
Southend Trials
Ok, went to the interview, standard interview questions "when have you had to own up to sometihng" "why have you applied?" "when have you had alot of stress and how did you deal with it?" didnt feel to comfortable at the interview as i had been made to wait 10 minutes, contemplating about the job! As i left i was complimented on what i was wearing so all is good!
mat hudson
got a similar dilemma. the job I'm going for is at bike hut in Cardiff, was just thinking shoes smart jeans and a shirt would be alright, surely you cant go that wrong, its not as if that's what they expect you to wear to work.
