F.N.G
So I have just ordered a new front wheel and I was wondering weather to get a front and rear quick release I think I should defo use for front but I don't know about the back. does anyone use quick release for the rear wheel with maguras? I haven't seen many people with a back one though only with the front Edited April 13, 2011 by F.N.G
CalopS
I think there usefull for the front if you need to take it out often, say if your on a roadtrip or something, but if not you might as well use bolts. I think they hold the wheels in better.
F.N.G
In the end I think I might put one quick release on the front and a normal bolt on the back. thanks for the advise
krazykid009
Tom you can't always use QR wih hubs, for example if it is a bolt up hub a QR won't fit. Plus I would never use a QR with a disk, as it just doesn't clamp well enough. James
N.Wood
Use bolts where you can. What hubs do you have?
F.N.G
I have a front hope pro 2 (disc) and a adamant 07 rear (non disc) I think ihave changed my mind now, thanks james Edited April 13, 2011 by F.N.G
krazykid009
You can only use bolts with the Adamant, and only use a QR with the Hope. Alternatively you can use thesewith the Hope. James
N.Wood
Or tap a thread into the axle to use bolts. A QR will be fine on the front though, I've found Shimano ones to clamp better than Hope or other fancy ones.
Ali C
the Pro 2 doesn't have an axle, so bolts are not an option.

I find you can't beat the Halo hex skewers for clamping power though James

N.Wood
the Pro 2 doesn't have an axle, so bolts are not an option. Oh really? Fair one. Guessed it was similar design to an XC.
krazykid009
Oh really? Fair one. Guessed it was similar design to an XC. I'm guessing that that was meant to say "threaded axle". You can use anything but bolts. I would still swap it up for a halo hex skewer though. James Edited April 13, 2011 by krazykid009
Ali C
nope, it just doesn't have an axle be it threaded or not.
krazykid009
Surely it does, otherwise what does the QR run through? James
Ali C
My link The hub uses end caps, they are not joined in the middle.
krazykid009
Oh ok, that makes sense now. So I guess, going back to the original question, that it's QR or the Halo skewers for Tom. My vote definitely goes for the Halos though James

krazykid009
from my experience, you can't beat Shimano QRs I suppose at the end of it all it just boils down to personal preference. I like the security a hex skewer gives, whereas others like the easiness of QR James
F.N.G
Ali could you give me a link towards the shimanos, I need to see the prices
krazykid009
There isn't a lot in it here. The Halos are £8.99, and the Shimano Deore's start at £9.99. I have an XT one here if you want it? James
