Matt Vandart
The people that really changed trials (in vague chronological order) Hans Rey The Marti(y)ns Ryan Leech (He's surely unemployed now?) Chris Akrigg Trialskings TRA Coustellier Brothers + Vincent Hermance Craig Lee Scott Damon Watson Danny Mac Obviously a lot of those are foreigners but there are plenty of people on that list who you could talk to. Actually someone should compile a history of trials and the internet, as played out by youtube videos. Would be pretty interesting. Why? To the OP, I wouldn't bother with the history, Leaps and bounds pretty much covers that.

kevtim
Cheers guys this is great stuff! To be honest I think yep, the history side has been covered to some degree (although there is plenty of room for expansion). For now I think its best for me to concentrate on the riders (mostly because of money/time limitations). I might take it upon myself to forge a comprehensive historical approach at a later date, but for now I think its probably best for me to approach the discipline through the riders for directness and visually appealing reasons. I do like the idea of getting the manufacturers involved as they played/play an extremely important role in the development of trials. It's a necessary approach to the discipline. I'm sure the development of trials bike design could be a book or documentary in itself. The improvement of frame geometry, brakes, the whole weight issue, the people that design this stuff (more jobs), people riding to sell/promote the product (more jobs), profit margins, etc... attaches it to the economy/our culture in pretty important ways, and it has done for a few decades now (other cultures as well). I'm only scratching the surface here but trials isn't just about the rolling, hopping and dropping, it's tied into the fabric of our very societies in some pretty complex ways (this forum being one example of it's global reach). I think any real comprehensive historic overview wtould be a pretty mammoth task. If you weren't just going to skirt over the "main" zeniths in the discipline that is. Are these just you personal fav riders? Yes sure I can agree with many on the list, but some of the riders are maybe very similar to each other!! I was think along the lines riders who I fist seen ride trials on the net. One name who springs to mind is Martin Walker! Guy with a silver pace and disc brakes?? Amazing ridding for his time. I'm sure some of the older members will know who I'm on about??

He and his brother were behind the first,in my opinion, real street trials bike with the pashley 26mhz, a chromoly bunnyhop machine! He also rode bmx and perhaps its possible he was the 'original' danny mac as he was the first to really fuse the two disciplines in an obvious way? Luke Rainbird
You've got it in one, Dave. Unfortunately as I only ride the odd comp here and there I am physically incapable of riding anywhere different to my usual riding spot. I sure hate it when not being a top comp rider inhibits my ability to go anywhere If only I'd left school to ride solely in muddy fields. Ah, that would be the life. My geographical location would know no bounds.
Scotty Evil1
Muddy feilds are awsooooome! Fields and banks is why i got into the sport! It sucks living in a flat place, theres a lack of rolling down hills Back to the point - I talk a lot of gibberish but you may find some semi useable stories in there for you project somewhere
