monty221ti
hi there, my rear hope trial brake is pissing me off! When i pull the lever it is about 3cm from the handlebar, then i can pump it out so its about 7-8cm from the handlebar. Then i can leave it for about 5sec and the lever is close to the bar again. i was told that it was that i is number 16/17 on the picture i need to replace? i am going to try it out, but can it be something else? cheers. by the way, it's a new style lever, not the one at the picture. monkeyseemonkeydo
Have you tried bleeding it? Sounds like you have air in the system, whether that's from dodgy piston seals or not is another matter.
monty221ti
yeah the bleed chould be pretty good, i will bleed it when i have changed the seals. how do i get the fluid out of the brake?
monkeyseemonkeydo
If I were you I'd leave the fluid in and just take the lever off to replace the seals. Use a zip tie or something to keep the hose from flapping around. Once sorted, put the lever back on and bleed normally. By leaving the majority of the fluid in there's less chance of you trapping air in unwanted places.
monty221ti
so i should take the hose of the lever, then replace the seals, put hose on and bleed, then i should be ok? how can i get the best bleed? i have the hope bleeding kit. Yes that's what I'd do . Bleed How To Not sure if that'll be applicable to our lever but there are others on the Hope site.

Mark W
Yep, as Dave said, needs a bleed, you shouldn't need any spare parts
monty221ti
thanks man! i will try to give it a bleed without changing the parts:)
monty221ti
I fixed it, took the top cap off, and the diaphragm out, topped it up with oil and pumped the lever a little bit, rolled the diaphragm in and put the cap on, and it worked. the brake is the same as my front brake now! yes.
