Rim Grind And Best Pads?

How Original

Recommended Posts

Well, as I am trying to get back into trials, I am wanting some advice on rim grinding.

The bike I have at the moment, only uses Vee brakes, and I want to make sure they aren't going to let me down.

The rims have had one very very light grind, but look like they have been well used since the grind (big line of brake pad colouring around the rim), was just wondering if it safe to grind more than once?

If I just do a light one to kind of "buff" it back up a bit...

And also, what would be the best/good pads to use on a grinded but well used rim?

And also on a fresh grind if it's safe to grind again..

I have around coming up to 15 grinds on my rim now! Its perfectly safe to do it more than once. :) Best bet would be to buy either, Heatsink, Tnn, Rockman or Phat Vee pads for best performance. Also heard that the cheap red material found on eBay is good. (Y)

Wow

I thought like 1-2 maximum lol.

Well I know I can give them a good grind then and be safe.

And what do you mean "cheap red material"?

Thanks for the advice on pads too.

Is it best to go for a hard compound or soft compound for a ground rim?

Mate not meaning to sound harsh but have a look at other topics/use the search bar.

You will get much quicker, better more detailed answers. Just the other day there was a topic about V-brake pads

It was just down from the new thread you started!

Cheap Red Pads

Harder compound would be more suitable for grinds, depending on the grind itself, harsh or light. Softer Pads would disintergrate into your rim. :D

I didn't see it when I made this one, besides does it really matter if I wanted to make my own? :ermm:

Ahhh thanks a lot man, I shall take a look.

eBay is pretty much my only form of buying stuff, or places that take PayPal anyway.

Thanks for the help :)

No it wasn't meant like that! Just for you benefit, there are loads of pad reviews and you can see which ones you like the look of :P

Ahh, just because even though you said it wasn't meant to be harsh, it did sound it a bit like  And thanks ;)(Y)

Also one more question to anyone who knows.

Upon closer inspection of the rim today, I have noticed their is a grind going each way, so it has obviously had 2 in it's life.

Does it matter which way I do this grind at all?

Because the others go in opposite directions :)
