BurlyBox
im a beginner and im looking for a bike, but im not sure wether to have a 20" or a 26", i am looking to spend about £200. Whats best for a starter? ive only just started and i got a bike tuesday. in general the smaller the bike the less expensive it will be as there is less material but really it depends on how you like to ride your bike in some ways as a 20" will be lighter and is easier to move around but some people prefer bigger bikes as they tend to be easier to control due to the wheel size. dont think everything im saying is right as i have only just started but from what ive heard and a bit of common sense i guess this makes sense. Nick Manning
Price wise there is no difference. New bikes are priced based on the parts that are used. Used bikes are priced based on what the owner thinks they are worth. Sometimes you can find real bargains on here, PinkBike or eBay. As for which size bike to go for, it completely is down to you. Short people tend to ride 20" because the reach on a 26" is too far and so is harder to ride. But then you also get plenty of tall riders riding 20". I would say your best bet would be to go on a ride, and just have a go on a few people bikes, 26 and 20. It would be the best way to help you decide what is best to go for. As you only have a £200 budget you will find it hard to get something of a moderate to decent spec, but anything will do for the moment. Just a quick search on ebay, found this Onza T-Pro 20" or Phase 1.1 26" Both these bikes are bargains and only a sample of what there is on eBay. You just need to decide which you prefer 20" or 26" Hope this helps.

BurlyBox
24". Best of both. only problem with that is theyre less common which makes getting second hand parts harder.

Bars, stems and forks and all things relating, are the same as stock bikes. The only things that MIGHT be a bit harder to find are tyres. Also there a few for sale threads that have plenty of 24" items, including my for sale thread where I'm selling a tyre.
