Zetec S
I'm assuming you're thinking of flat head + hammer on groves of either square taper or isis BB. I personally would not reccommend it, when you want to remove the BB you will most likely be stuffed, plus you could slip off and bash your frame or indeed bash yourself but wait and see on other memebers feedback! Miles Mallinson
You can screw it in by hand so it is flush with the frame but it won't stay tight for very long, only way i can think is using a flat head screwdriver and knocking it tight but you might (will) destroy the grooves. Mark W
A new BB tool is a lot cheaper than a new BB, and a hell of a lot cheaper than a new frame...

Miles Mallinson
no but i was just wondering if it can be done without it so it saves ordering one It can be done just not really good enough if your gonna ride it everyday or so, if you want to do it without your proberly gonna have to tighten it up every few rides as it will come loose or just go to halfords/local bike shop or something they will do it for you. deilsonwheels
DON'T use a hammer and screwdriver on this type of bb. You'll wreck it and end up with all kinds of hassle later. Be patient, take it to your lbs or order the tool. Proper tools are ace - invest in them as you need them and you'll save yourself a load of time and money in the long term. Ateam
A basic BB tool is pretty cheap, like $10 dollars US. The BB tool made by FSA is a bit longer than most so it will work on all longer BB axles (I'm discussing ISIS BB). It works so perfectly and easily, no buggering your threads and it will be an essential tool for basic bike work. Otherwise take it to your shop and watch, ask questions and then have them sell you the BB tool. dmiller403
^cant go wrong with the right tool. Ill have to look for the fsa version. I have a parktool and it does seem to be at the tip of the blades when finishing tiightening. Could potentially cause problems when trying to loosen it, especially when theres an aluminum bb shell involved.
