howvard
I think I have asked before but didnt get much of a response. I ride a mad phase 1.3 and this dosent have a very wide rear end or magura mounts. As much as I would like to run magura, the rim that I run on the rear is to wide to accomidate a v-brake or magura so I have been forced to run dual disc. This came as a shock so im not running a great setup at the moment. Avid SD7 levers and hayes and tektro calipers not great. I have seen many MOD's riding dual disc but not so many stocks. The Hope trials brakes seem to get used alot and the Magura Louise, but I dont know if these brakes will hold a stock bike steady on the rear wheel. Any advice or help pictures of your disc setups would be great and help out. Thanks
ForrestDump
Although I do not ride a stock or know anyone yet who does, after thinking about this topic, I would have thought that due to more force and the bike being bigger than a Mod in general, I would advise using a very large disk on the rear on a stock mainly down to the force the disk will be put under, defiantly one larger than you would usually use on the front. sstein
I ride stock, i have one with maggie and one with disc. Disc on the rear of a stock sucks arse and I am getting maggie mounts brazed on so I no longer have to use it. So you know I am not saying that disc is unuseable, and with a decent set up it should actually be alright, but it is nothing compared to the bite and hold of a good rim brake. Literally just went for a ride and I really know what you meen they are so bad in fareness. I suppose for me the only thing I can do to have the enjoyment of using a maggie is to buy a new frame with a wide rear end which makes me sad to say goodbye to my first frame. Can you post a pic of the dual disc bike. Thanks for the help mate.
sstein
If you are using tektro calipers i will of course be a shite brake. whether they are usable depends on your style if you are smooth and do lots of sidehops rather than up to backs they will be fine. what rim are you using because the phase should be fine with a rim brake. perhaps post a photo so we can see? Matt Vandart
Well I think dd on stock is fine as long as the frame has dedicated 180mm (ISO+20) mounts. The brake on my Ashton never let me down and its hold was way better than a maggie.
forteh
I ran rear disk on my triton for a couple of weeks, had a 185 bb7 (couldnt run a bigger disk with the offset of my hub) and to be fair it sucked majorly The bite was reasonable but hold was non existant, nothing I tried would get it working so I switched back to maggie and swapped the bb7 for a front v setup which Im still using to this day. Ive heard several people also say that rear bb7s just dont work for trials, a well set up hope should work ok though. What rear rim do you have? Perhaps consider swapping for something a little narrower, a dx32 is only 38mm wide, might be enough to let you use a rim brake
Scott Gibbs
I run dual disc on my stock. I ride mainly street so its more manuals, rolling at stuff but mine seem to hold ok i'm running bikehut hydro discs with 180mm rotors im learning to backhop (still) and they havent let me down.
