Clearing A Sink Drain - Properly

Hey all,

As with most household problems I have, I'm hoping TF can help with a little niggle I have...

I have a really slow draining bathroom sink, which I would like to drain like a normal sink rather than a retard. Every now and again I pour a Mr Muscle (or similar supermarket own brand) drain cleaner down it which does a decent job for a few days but then we're back to square one. I'm fully aware what's blocking it - I cough up an inordinate amount of crap every morning due to being a raging alcoholic, but I would hate for my addiction to get in the way of being able to brush my teeth in the morning without my chin going for a swim in phlegm filled water.

Help.

Anyone know any proper fixes or is it time for a plumber to clean out my pipes? Wink wink nudge nudge.

Can you get underneath it easily enough? Could unscrew the plastic fittings and clean all the shit out of the u-bend?

Other than that, could try one of those 'snake' things you put down the plug, spin around and it collects any hair/dislodges shit thats down there.

I can get to the fittings easy enough, and I've given them a good clean out before, but I could see there was plenty of shit in the pipes that went in the wall too.

I suppose I should try a snakey thing in the wall :)

Cheers either way.

Mark on Mark's account this time ;)

I had a similar problem, but I bought a Drain Bomb thing. You have to cover over the overflow hole thing on your sink, but it forms a little seal around the plug hole then just blasts some shit down there that totally clears thing using pure power. Worked really well for me without having to whip the U-bend off (Y)

Ooh, that sounds about as interesting as sink unblocking can get without throwing dynamite down there... I'm going to be lazy and ask where you got it, rather than spending the same time Googling it. Where did you get it?

I borrowed a pipe unblocking gun from work to unblock my OHs bath when she was living in her flat, basically you pressurise it, push a rubber nozzle down over the hole, block the overflow and unleash hell - think its about 120 psi :)

Drain cleared super quick after that, never had a problem until about a month later the flat below complained of water running into their electricity cupboard

Blown the Ubend clean off and was just draining into the floor :D

Word of warning before you start using pressurised clearing methods make sure you dont use it on compression fittings!

Just a Sainsburys or Tesco or some generic supermarket like that. In the usual "Shit you need, not shit you want" sort of area.

Gonna go nuts in that aisle tonight - Drain unblocker, toilet roll, washing up sponges, kitchen roll and air freshners. Shit yeah.
