dann2707
I've just got my new headset from tarty. It's the 1 1/8" size for my Onza T-Pro 06. However the headset cups simply wobble where they are supposed to seat. They should be pretty tight trying to fit in right? However they simply wobble about and are very loose. I think I might have done this myself as I used Caustic Soda to strip my frame. I dipped the front end into the pot of soda to strip it, but I think it's removed too much of the bleeding frame. Have I bought the wrong headset... again? Or is my frame totally funked. If the latter, i'm going to cry. Can get a vid or pic of the lack of tight fit if it helps. Cheers, dannnnnn
rab shropshire
possibly flared the headtube dan
dann2707
Damn I've just searched for fixes, using a coke can as a shim seems to be a popular one, to make the headset a nice snug fit.
CalopS
do those frames use internal? Would have thought they would be the normal threadless one. if you have your old headset see if the fitting is similar or not.
dann2707
Well I bought an FSA pig headset which is a standard fit too and that didn't fit either! I don't have a coke can but I have fosters can so that should work the same due to the same diameter. Hopefully... oh well either way I get to drink a beer.

dann2707
Please sing that to me on the phone? Will do a little video now!Video went terribly wrong. Here are a few pictures, absolutely aware of the shocking finish where the anodising hasn't fully come off, hense the shitty spray job and lack of being arsed. dann2707
I have both! Neither fit snugly.
trialsmax04
Do not panic! I'm pretty sure you have the wrong headset. Internal ones come in a few different diameters. I know because I struggled to find one for my MTB. TAke an internal and external measurement of the headtube and check CRC out
Yorkshire Dale
yea man that looks internal to me
Duncy H
I'm also fairly sure that you have the wrong headset. Since the dawn of time t-pros have had internal headsets where most if not all of the headset sits inside/in flush with the frame. If you look on tarty there are two sub catergories for the headset section and both differ quite a bit. Good luck with it Dan
dirt jumper jake
Onza internal headsets are different to standard if i remember correctly, as you can get a few different sizes. had the same problem when build my jump bike as usually its a 45x45 degree bearing but mine was 45x35 http://www.rocknrollbikes.com/trials/onza-open-bearing-internal-headset.html what i had in my t-bird which was the same gen as your t-pro if you get me
dann2707
I have an External headset and an Internal headset. The one in the picture is under the internal section on Tarty. I also have a brand new FSA pig headset which is external, which also doesn't fit - as ofc its an internal headtube! Weird that tarty say the one I bought fits onza's though. Looks like that's another £10nner i'm spending on headsets. Anyone wana buy an brand new FSA pig? or this one? lol!
Duncy H
Is the other internal headset you have the one that was originally on the bike? If so it will most likely indeed be that the headtube is flared i am afraid

dann2707
Nope, the original one was a cane creek one. This is a diff one from tartayyyyy
ghostrider88
you obviously need internal headset with outer diameter 46mm instead of yours 45 I guess...
dirt jumper jake
you obviously need internal headset with outer diameter 46mm instead of yours 45 I guess... 45 stands for the degree of the angle the bearings are tapered at, nowt to do with diameter
ghostrider88
I wasn´t refering to your post...here you can see example of different sizes of headset http://www.kcnc.com.tw/Web/NewWeb/rdheadset2.htm Edited February 23, 2011 by ghostrider88
trialsmax04
Like I said, internal headsets come in different diameters. Get your ruler out!
dann2707
Inner diameter looks around 45-46mm
monkeyseemonkeydo
Just give Tarty a ring. Adam and his inhuman knowledge of all things bicycle related will be able to tell you immediately the diameter required, tolerances the frames and bearings are made to, thermal stability of the material it's made of and what you had for tea last night. trialsmax04
Inner diameter looks around 45-46mm That's the size you need then. Take the inner and external measurement and look for a headset that will match. Unfortunately internal headsets are not just one size fits all.
