Blake
Hey guys, I have trouble keeping my chain tight and saw snail cams are some kind of tightener? But like, where do they go and how do you put them on? Be simple as I don't know all parts of the wheel Cheers

Blake
Now all I know is they click and make the chain better But how do they work and is it easy to fit them?
LukasMcNeal
If the cam is turned in the direction of the green arrow it pushes against the bolt (black) and the wheel will move backwards in the direction of the yellow arrow. They are easy to fit and simple go on the end of the axle on the wheel and inbetween the frame
Gaz96
But you need frames and hubs that allow for snail cams dont you? Am I right in saying not all frames and hubs will take them
Blake
Oh right that helped actually. . . . . Will the fit an onza t pro 2007? Some form of monty hub. . .

I used snail cams on my Tpro and the hub should be ok just check the axle diameter and the snail cam hole diameter
crashbanggg
Sorry to thread jack, but... How do you know if the hub is ok for snail cams? I have a small hole in my frame which I assume is where the bolt goes, does this mean its probably ok to have them?
LukasMcNeal
Yes that is the snail cam hole
crashbanggg
Yes that is the snail cam hole Thanks! Also, is there any difference between the smooth ones and ones with teeth?
LukasMcNeal
Thanks! Also, is there any difference between the smooth ones and ones with teeth? Ones with teeth click into place and stay put more than smooth ones, I'd recommend Echo TR cams as they have micronotches so they have a better range of adjustment but stay it place too
dann2707
Imo I much prefer chain tugs to snail cams though as you know they are going to stay put whereas i've seen people complain about snail cams slipping and such, but then again that's probs due to shite set up! I had to get a tap and cut a thread on the little hole though because it doesn't have one which seems a bit wierd??!! Any way, I had to put my snail cams on the outside of the frame because they wouldn't fit on the inside. I can get a pic if you want? Hoping to get a new back wheel reasonably soon Thanks for that to be honest im not fussed what it looks like (This is obvious by the colour 'scheme' on my bike) just as long as it keeps the chain tight and wheel in-line ...Now to find to some snail cams

TrialsMan Dan
while on the topic of snail cams im looking to change my frame soon, looking at a because simple street which takes snail cams, can i run my hope pro 2 hub on that too or will i need to use tugs instead? Looking at the frame i can't see why not, you'd have to run them on the outside of the dropouts though, but there aren't any real issues with this. Mark W
Sorry to thread jack, but... How do you know if the hub is ok for snail cams? I have a small hole in my frame which I assume is where the bolt goes, does this mean its probably ok to have them? With that frame, the snail cam holes are drilled so far from the dropouts they're pretty much in a different post code so you may struggle to use some of the cams on the market. Just check out which give the most movement and you should be fine. Ones with teeth click into place and stay put more than smooth ones, I'd recommend Echo TR cams as they have micronotches so they have a better range of adjustment but stay it place too The 2011 cams are smooth instead of notched. while on the topic of snail cams im looking to change my frame soon, looking at a because simple street which takes snail cams, can i run my hope pro 2 hub on that too or will i need to use tugs instead? May have to put one on the outside and one on the inside as the Pro 2's 135mm as is the frame.
