hazzyhaslam
Is 27 to old be getting bike into the sport?! Been having a real itch to get back on it! What do you guys think?
Mattio
Not in the slightest mate! I've seen people 40+ getting into this sport, to be honest it's one thing that gave me the confidence to start. Even though I'm only 18 my fitness is pretty poor due to having an accident last year and being lazy since! Age is nothing but a number and a state of mind, get out and get riding! Kieran Morrison
Is 27 to old be getting bike into the sport?! Been having a real itch to get back on it! What do you guys think? A 40 y/o has started trials on here, goes to show you can start at any age. If you want to, do it. Its not harming you, its helping!
AJ9604
I'm 28 and I'm just getting back into the sport so age is no object just a number
hazzyhaslam
I rode for 7 years before then quit as life caught up with me but now lifes a little more settled I'm very tempted get going again! Shame I never kept any of my old bikes really. As long as I loose some of this pudding from round my waist I'll be happy!
bikeperson45
If you need some inspiration you can watch this guy starting at 40, goes all the way to part
irish108
Really interesting question, it depends what you want to achieve, the "age is just a number and state of mind" thing is a great attitude but science has a lot to say about the age that physical characteristics start to decline, things like testosterone levels, reaction time, agility, coordination, stamina and strength and recovery time all go the wrong way sooner or later, all though no doubt the more active you stay the better. Comparable sports such as gymnastics and sprinting have very different ages for peak performance, gymasts tend to be teenagers, and sprinters don't necessarily peak until around 30. Sports where experience is a factor such as martial arts have a later peaking age and competition trials is similar in that sense. In terms of competition riders, Mark Caisso had IMO his stronger year ever this year at age 29, and Benito Ros and Dani Comas are the same age and it'd be harsh to say they're past their best. I've been considering lately what I can realistically hope to achieve at competition riding turning 25 this summer and I'm hoping I've got 5 youthful years left before age becomes an issue. I would say at 27 you should be bang in your athletic prime and getting back into riding would be a great idea. I love trials and I'll be gutted if my knees don't hold up until I'm at least 40, even if by then it's just for fun and fresh air. I bumped into Martyn Ashton the other week and he's still going strong, I didn't ask how old he is pretty sure it's still double figures... he looks extremely well! Lilley
Is 27 to old be getting bike into the sport?! Been having a real itch to get back on it! What do you guys think? Of course not, 27 is young but even if you were 37 or 47 I would say give it a go. All riders regardless of age need to ride within their body's limitations and capabilities. Trials is a great sport because it has so many different elements, speed, power, technique and decision making all play a part. As you get older your body may not respond in the way it once did but that doesn't mean it no longer works. Ride to your strengths and have fun. ellingtj
Nearly 33, don't have the nerve I used to and it takes a lot longer to recover after a ride but I still love it. Go on get back involved and selling your old bike is the perfect excuse to get onboard one of these new modern trials bikes.

forteh
32 in may and still riding, as already said it takes longer for the body to recover but once youve got past the first few weeks of aches and pains it should be plain sailing
Matt Vandart
I actually find I can ride/do exercise longer now than when I was younger and I sometimes am looking less f**ked at the end of a ride than younger riders. I put this down to working 12 hr shifts 7 days a weeks for 3 weeks at a time on oil rigs (you seen how many steps there are on those things?) I do professional step aerobics, lol getting fitter/remaining fit is the only good things about the shitty job.
hazzyhaslam
Cheers lads, think that's helped me make my mind up. Just hope I find time around work and college and running a new house. Think my job as an electrician has kept me fairly fit bar the chippy lunches etc! Plus riding 16 mile days to and from work with tools on my back has kept me strong. So what style of bike should I aim to get? My old bikes have always been short and streety such as the old pace rc250t and pashley 26ghz? Think I'm mainly going to ride natural to get away from the city with working in them most days! steve sturt
Im 30 and just started back up a few months ago after a 5 year break. Did a comp in spetmeber and came 2nd in class. Was twice the height of the 1st and 3rd guy. Must have made an odd photo. I think my bike was older than some of the riders.
