Really Good Kids

Hi

As I said in another post we are very new to this. If you watched any of Malcolms videos http://www.youtube.com/user/coweemtns?feature=mhum you can see our main interest is in motor cycles. I would say my interest is split evenly between MX and Trials. I kind of got Malcolm into the Trials thing as a after thought.

What really turned me on to bicycle Trials was seeing a video of (I think his name ) is Charlie Rolls on You Tube over a year ago. It blew me away. I thought Malcolm must learn that at least as a hobby. The importer of Sherco bikes knew somone at Monty and got the bike shipped to me here in the US. I got it oer a year ago, I think it is the only 205 in the US, I know there are one or two in Canada. In the video of him on the Monty it was only like his second time on the bike. I had just gotten the cranks shortened so that he could pedal the bike. Most of his riding is on the motor cycles.

Since we live in the US there is just very little trials riding. Most of what we have learned is looking at you guys videos. So far I just try to get him to ride hard things standing up. From the very first he has been taught to stand up starting at 28 months on the push bike.

My big question is where are the hotbeds of bicycle trials? I think Charlie is from England. Where are the good groups of young kids? Are there any big clubs? Since we are interested in motor cycle trials are there any groups of kids that are very good that do both? What is the kids scene in Spain, I know in Spain they have the best mototrials riders, of course England has great riders also.

Anyway what do you guys know about the kids groups with great kids? Is Charlie the only one?

Malcom,

You've lost me a bit with the aim of your post, are you after info pertaining to whetther there are any children specific clubs for trials in Europe or where do the younger lads ride? Well for bike trials I believe there are no dedicated clubs/groups here in the UK for younger riders -they comptete alongside all other ages at competitions, though there are categories for age ranges. For moto trials the situation is different (someone may like to clarify) as there are 'Schoolboy clubs' for younger rideers - these clubs sometimes hold bicycle trials. I guess it's a similar situation in Spain. Where in the US are you?

Hi

I guess my post was not clear and did wonder a bit.

What I am interested in is where clubs might be or just hotbeds of young kids in both Moto Trials and bicycles. It has been my expierence in other sports that you get several kids together and they just explode, and the little group becomes a hotbed of talent.

If there are any young riders anywhere near Malcolms age, I would love to keep in contact with them, even if it is by email and You Tube exchanges.

I have already seen that in just watching a video Malcolm enjoys watching other kids more than adults.

Charlie and Adam Morewood ride in the tyke trials comps and nationals and maybe falcons too.

see Bike Trials UK for more info

Its incredable the balance they have at such a young age.

I remember a Lee Mill last year where Adam entered the blue intermediate section and he was only a couple of point behind me and im 23

I have tons to learn about this sport. I had never heard of these events.

I had heard of and seen Adam and Charlie on You Tube, they are our inspiration in bike Trials. If you know them tell them that Malcolm is gunning for them. What great kids to chase.

It keeps us busy learning MX, Mototrials and Bicycle Trials, but what a load of fun.

Hi, I am Charlie Rolls,s mum. I have just come across your post on this forum.

Charlie mostly practises at home on his own, riding over man made obstacles. He does learn a lot from watching better riders on youtube, very often he will watch a video and go straight out to ride. He also goes practising with older riders, this helps him learn new skills.

He rides as many competitions as he can. He just loves riding. He rides most days. Chrlie is now ten and has been riding for 4 years.

I have seen Malcolm on his motorbike, he is brilliant. His best way of improving is to ride as much as possible.

Regards, Kellie.

Hi Malcom,

Kevin from the Scottish bike trials club. What i have seen here is a bunch of kids buy trials bikes from the local bike shop and it has gone from me running a couple of fun events in 2010 to a Scottish champoinship this year. Just as whats been said is that my two lads ride with their mates and sometimes with some of the expert riders. Riding with the expert riders, I always see an improvment as they see things getting riden and want to try it. I guess if you have no one around, videos are the next best way of improving. In the area there was nothing and it just took someone to stand up and organise a fun trial and the club has gone from there. My two practice in the garden and I have organised a huge barn to let the guys train through the winter. I have been involved with moto trials and Enduros since I was a kid and just love putting something back into a sport I love. We travelled a lot of miles this year to let the boys ride in some of the British champs and a few tyke trials as well. Even more next year.

I guess in the States it will be a bit harder with your countries enthusiasim with MX and freeriding but it just takes someone to stand up and get something running and X games there you go!!! Aaron Duke has posted up some of his riding and it doesnt take long to improve from starter in 2010 to trying intermediate at the last Bitish round. They both won there Scottish groups this year.

Find an local area and get some of his mates down set up some fun sections and share his bike with them. Thats what we did and then they will go get their own. Or come over for a Holiday around some of the events listed in the Bike trial federations web site. A few riders including Adam and Charlie do the European rounds and use the time as a holiday.
