Looking For A Hardtail Any Suggestions?

Its been way too long since my departure from the trials world and I have the itch again to be riding a bike. I've decided to get back in to cross country / general riding around fast and enjoying life. So I figure a hardtail will fit the bill nicely. Sadly I have no clue where to start with this plus, every bike I see looks completely queer compared to a trials bike (seat tubes? huge chain slack .. ..seat?!!!!! WTF).

Anyway I need some suggestions put forward.. looking to spend anywhere from 500-800 on this one would prefer some decent stopping power and some none queer drivetrain would be lovely.

edit:

balls didnt realise we had a non trials chat related area.. this can be moved

Bought an On-One 456 2nd hand off pinkbike about 3 weeks ago for 400, does everything I want ask of it so well!

I would really recommend the steel 456! (although mines the summer season and my 140mm forks don't lock out so it is a bit slack for steep climbing, if i could wind them down to 120/100 it would be perfect

Go second hand is my advice, more for your money and all that jazz. there were quite a few marin xc builds on there last time I looked and they ride really well ion my experience.

  • 4 weeks later...

Listen to him ^^

I did, ordered an On One 456 Summer season last week, it arrived within 2 days an I'm shocked at how good the quality is for the price. I ordered mine the day after they went back up to full price which was a bit annoying, but still the quality for £160 is brilliant, mega chuffed with it. Although I can't comment on how it rides 'cus I haven't finished building it up yet. But if it lives up to its reviews then I don't think I'll be disappointed!
