MadManMike
Right, so I got a D3100 last week, just been messing around getting some video to see what it's like. Tried it in Pinnacle Studio 12, doesn't support MOV files. Tried it in Vegas 9 Pro, after installing QuickTime it let me import it, but I couldn't see an image, just heard the sound. Is there any program that will let me edit the damn video?Ok, I'm trying to convert the MOV to AVI and use it in Pinnacle... If this doesn't work I'm going to be upset, lol. MadManMike
So it didn't work... Why would anyone use this format if all the major editing software doesn't work with it?
Oldskooltrials
I got a Kodak Zi8 video camera the other day, it uses MOV files and you have to use the Arcsoft Mediaimpression software with it. I think you can download it for free? I also read that this can use MOV files ? Good luck.

Was looking to use professional software, but thanks for the link anyway, appreciate your effort
Simpson
I use Prism but only converts in real time, so is a right jap to use.
MadManMike
I use Prism but only converts in real time, so is a right jap to use. That's better than most lol. My 1 min clip took 9 mins to convert, then wouldn't play at all. I'll look into it
Mikee
I use Prism but only converts in real time, so is a right jap to use. I use prism and I converted an hour and a half film in just under 10 mins.
MadManMike
Well so far Prism has converted it to AVI, which is good. It seems to play just fine. Installing Pinnacle again, will see if it works in there next. If it does, I owe you a beer or a handjob or something...
MadManMike
That did the trick, thanks Simps - you're a legend mate
Captain Scarlet
Just a tip, because it's a *.mov file doesn't mean other *.mov files will not work with your editing set-up *.mov/Quicktime is merely a container format, whereby multiple tracks of whatever format can be dropped in and read by the one player, in this case quick time. If the original video file is a quirky format before it is contained into the *.mov then this will give the symptoms that you have been experiencing. *.Avi may have not worked the first time as that is also a container format, so I would assume it kept the original referenced files the same, but by the sounds of it the prism software must have converted the reference files before making it *.Avi Edited January 25, 2011 by Captain Scarlet
