mr.tattoo
needing some new pedals always had platforms but wondered what most of you guys use? i tried cages on a mates bike years ago and they felt skinny under the foot but cant rem much else. any pro's or con's?? cheers
Revolver
I think that on a caged pedal, because there's less contact area with your foot, you get more pressure, more grip. On the other hand, I'd rather beat myself in the shin with a platform pedal than with a caged pedal. Also, IMO platorms feel nicer underfoot. mr.tattoo
yeah thats what i remember my foot seemed to curve over the pedal loads on caged and wasnt sure i liked that feelin ha. do both offer similar grip in all conditions or are one worse then the other say in wet or damp use? im still learning so dont wana give myself another injury lol
Revolver
I should think caged pedals are better in the wed and mud.. less pedal to stick to. So, if you're a natural trials rider, go for the caged pedals, you'll soon get used to them. And if you're a street rider, you probably avoid riding in the rain anyway so stick to platforms. dann2707
Platforms should, generally speaking be able to take more abuse from smashing into walls etc, too.
CalopS
Ive always avoided using platforms because the pins always came out so easy or bent which made for a uneven feel underfoot but the pins on the echo tr platforms are great. Been using a pair since xmas and not had any trouble yet.

Greetings
I've always had platforms, recently switched from Echo SL platforms to Echo SL cages and I'm deeply dissatisfied. To put it short, if it's wet and your shoes are worn, you will have absolutely no grip. So the first thing to do after you switch to cages would be to get new shoes. Another thing, if you ride street and weight isn't a priority, platforms will be a lot better. Most single caged pedals are very fragile, most dual cage pedals fall apart. Just switched to echo caged pedals from mg1s and on slightly worn ribo sole there is very little grip compared to the platforms, i will be buying some mg1s this week without a doubt. jambo
Yup if you like to ride wearing skate style shoes like nike 6.0s or vans the cages are rather slippy in the wet. Ive just went back to v 12s and find them a little more solid under foot but im looking at the Echo platforms myself.
