JD™
Do you realise this thread is over a year old? He's done it because of another similar thread, in which I mentioned this one because it had some relevant data. Would be good to get this filled out by more people, I think it'd give people a decent idea of the average as a starting point when they're just starting to ride.
Jake.
I'll measure my limey today if I find some tape, will be interesting as I run my bars with the backsweep going directly up rather than forwards. Be good to compare to other limey 4s
dezmtber
A tip when meauring bar hight. Lean it against a wall measure both sides, add them together and divede by two. This gives a true measurement.Make sure they don't move while measuring

dann2707
When talking bikes I do, you wouldn't say I just managed a 138cm sidehop or a 174cm gap would you!
JD™
By the way 68-70cm 70-72cm There must be 68-70 and then 71-... Not really, 68 to 70 and 70 to 72. So 70.1 in the latter and 69.9 in the former. 70 could be up for debate. I suppose I should have made them as 68 < x <= 70 and 70 < x <= 72 but I didn't factor in pedantic twats.
Luke Rainbird
hen talking bikes I do, you wouldn't say I just managed a 138cm sidehop or a 174cm gap would you! How do you measure your wheelbase? BB rise? Stays? Getting my point?
Blake
When talking bikes I do, you wouldn't say I just managed a 138cm sidehop or a 174cm gap would you! I do all geometrys in mm and sidehops gaps in feet or inches
Canardweb
WHat about the angle of your stem? It makes everything way different. Along with head angle.
picowatt
990 handlebar end to floor and 340 bb to floor. 65cm difference I am on a Low (+10) BB stock frame
Luke Rainbird
Just a quick one to reiterate how pointless this measurement is. Unless all bikes had a standardised length including stem then you're finding out nothing at all here. Reach including stem would be a far better way of finding out the cockpit room, but again there's only so much that gives you without knowing how that breaks down into up/across components really. JD™
Absolutely true, obviously. People who've been playing with geo for a while will know this is essentially useless. However, if a couple of hundred people answered it then at least there'd be an average answer to give people who constantly ask how high their bars should be. To be able to say "start off at 66cm above the height of your BB from the floor and work from there" is more useful an answer than "everyones setup is different, go find out for yourself".
FamilyBiker
lets bump this, folks!always liked the idea of it(as unprecise as it is) this poll only had 24 votes,we are thousands of members, and i think if this gets more into an average value terrain it could actually be pretty helpful. TriаlsRider
Really good idea will be to at least consider reach(frame and stem?) + riders height (and maybe arms length). On my fourplay I have now 106cm from floor(crazy trialtech stem 90x35+TT High Rise turned back and 45mm of stackers) and 106cm-338mm=72.2 cm. Feels pretty awesome. Don't need anything higher(I'm 6'). By the way pedals are play role in this too - Platform depth (Thinnest point) vary and may give/take some extra 2-3mm if you are riding on pedals of course, not on BB axle. FamilyBiker
i think it was said a few times, its here to find a good starting point. for example someone who rides street and builds a comp bike, having problems for what to go in terms of bar/stem setup, could see here with which values he/she could start to make no biiiig mistakes. its not to get a finetuning pointer to tweak it to the max, just to have a "what do people do" thing atm i´m changing to a bit more trialsy setup, and i have to set my bars at a neutral, street´ish angle,if the poll gets a good amount of votes you´ll see 2,maybe 3 of the bars at the top being the largest, and can read a tgs/comp/street average from that, depending on genre youll have to orientate at one of the bars. reach and stuff is pretty genre-dependant already,so its not that important for now Edited December 9, 2013 by FamilyBiker
