AdamR28
i dont know if that will be strong but it's an awesome work! well done edit: whats the weight now? Hopefully it will 1.474kg including chain tensioners. Might do the downtube too...
monkeyseemonkeydo
That stuff worries me... we snapped a wing spar from a UAV model last week running that type of tube and it didn't seem like it was 'proper'... it's not laminated carbon weave is it? The spar cracked like it was made of brittle plastic rather than proper CF composite.
Stan Shaw
Really pleased with how it all turned out after lots of debating and fettling with random bits of tube we had. Hopefully it all hold up and then we can look at doing the downtube

Should be 100% carbon, looks like it's been rolled around a mandrel (you can see the layers) then pressure tape wrapped...

Are the layers made from woven cloth?
AdamR28
Doesn't look like it - apparently multi-axial fibres though... I should have consulted the oracle (you ) first it seems!

AdamR28
That's my thinking with most stuff like this... and if it's not, blowtorch, new carbon, more glue, try again!

Nick Manning
Looks cool Stan, not sure if it was a wise move. Hopefully it holds out for you and stands up to the tests. Think the warranty might be void now though Stan.

gary-mac
slightly concerned Am with you on this one ali lol. sorry but i can see a sore one coming!! if its not broke don't fix it. looks cool all the same.
Ali C
You not like? It's not that I don't like it, I just don't have much faith in it that's all It also looks far too neat for what is essentially a bodge job, I think it needs some random nuts and bolts in it and possible some random green paint.
Jason Maarsseveen
looks really sweet.how is the aztec disc and magura 2011?
Stan Shaw
Regarding strength, I guess we'll soon find out, but you never know if things like this work unless you try it. If it doesn't work then fair enough. Besides, plenty of frames have carbon top tubes. looks really sweet.how is the aztec disc and magura 2011? Awesome Easily the best disc I've ever had. Wish I could have such an attitude towards such expensive bike parts.
AdamR28
So if the frame snaps How and why would the frame snap because of the carbon tube?
mr kenny
I love this, i cannot wait to see it ? get my phat arse over it on Monday. The frame will snap because: 1) its not made from metal mined from the Amazon region. 2) ' We ' cant have it so its clearly not that good. Ali cummon, i thought you would like this, we supported you through v - brakes !
Revolver
It's photoshopped! It's a big trick involving a different, broken frame, and clever use of the clone stamp tool! Edited March 4, 2011 by Revolver

Wish I could have such an attitude towards such expensive bike parts. Not really, Adam and I have modified loads of stuff in the past. Sometimes it work, sometimes it doesn't, but as I said you'll never find out unless you try. Its also just interesting to see if it works. If the tube or glue doesn't hold up then it'd pretty straight forward to remove and try again.
