AJ9604
i am running 16-13 on my inspired with the cheap 4jeri l tensioner ( http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/sprung_tensioners/4jeri_tensioner/c48p10179.html ) that just pushing the chain down for the tension but it is skipping, i have the right chain for the sprockets but when i put pressure over two pedal strokes the chain rides up the teeth at the back and then slips back on will the tensile chain tensioner fix this? this one ( http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/sprung_tensioners/tensile_single_speed/c48p10421.html ) cheers AJ

I'd recommend using a sprung tensioner like the Tensile or Trialtech. Should sort the problem.

Luke Dunstan
That would probably be your chain line. As in alignment. Edited January 15, 2011 by xDUNSTANx
AJ9604
not the alignment as i adjusted it this morning and the chain is dead straight and have adjusted the tensioner in all positions to accomidate
Luke Dunstan
not the alignment as i adjusted it this morning and the chain is dead straight and have adjusted the tensioner in all positions to accomidate Then all I can suggest to correct the issue, is a double wheeled sprung tensioner. Jon Alty
More tension? Is all i can suggest if you have the right chain for the sprockets and your chainline is straight?
AJ9604
cheers for the help, hopefully someone will have had the same problem and can shed some light for me AJ
trialsmax04
i had the same problem. You need to use a duel wheel tensioner with that gearing or get bigger rear sprocket to help the amount of chain wrap.
AJ9604
i'm gonna try the tensile tensioner to see it that helps
Miles Mallinson
Or an old short cage derailleur works well whilst your waiting for your new one, also you can modify so that the tensioner pushes the chain up not pulling it down. bike_dummie
don't mean to be sorta of topic but how to you make it go up instead of down?
Miles Mallinson
There are a few ways you can reverse the spring in the tensioner or the proper bodging way which I did today was take the spring out and get a bit of bungie cord and tie it up, the tension you want it at, it wraps the chain round the sprocket so there is better contact. Mark W
Please note that we recommend double wheel tensioners for 15T and smaller rear sprockets. This is to ensure a healthy amount of chain wrap and help to eliminate the chance of the chain skipping. The Trialtech tensioner's pretty much the same as the Tensile but comes without the little locating pin thing so you can get it tucked up more out of the way. isitafox
Or do what I did and just pull the pin out and stick a washer between the tensioner and the frame Edited January 18, 2011 by isitafox
AJ9604
solved it with a rohlhoff tensioner, now i have loads of chain wrap as you can see from this to this Cheers for the help people AJ Edited January 19, 2011 by AJ9604
