zoster
hey! i recently bought a trialtech 23T sprocket for my 24", and it looks quite sturdy. considering i don't up to bash or anything like that ( it is used only in case my rear wheel slips on a ledge or something), could i get away without one? i'm thinking bmxers don't use bashrings and they probably bash them once ia a while, especially if they do grinds, so maybe an occasional bumb is tolerable? what do you think? Revolver
Yes, you can get away without one. If you never bash your bashguard, then you don't have to worry. A sturdy chain like a KMC kool chain will stand up to a few beatings before it gives in, too.
Luke Dunstan
I'd still have one on there. Just in case. If you're out on a ride and bash hard, might ruin your day.
Mark W
I rode my 24 without a bashring for a while, including tanking it into some objects, and nothing really happened. That was with a freewheel on the front too which I'd say was a little more vulnerable than a 'normal' sprocket is. The 23t sprockets are pretty meaty so it can probably take a few hits at a guess. Main thing to keep an eye on would be your chain.
Miles Mallinson
Had my Ashton like this for a few days as I was grinding my bashring, can't really wear baggy jeans with it though and trouser clips don't look good with skate shoes, kind of liked it though because even though the freewheel or sprocket can take a bit of a beating it makes you try not to bash your bike around as much so your smoother on pedal ups first time and other moves. onza1
I don't think I have a bash ring how easy ate they to fit, & what generally do they help with, do the protect the bottom of your frame?
Miles Mallinson
They are a protection incase you smash the sprocket or freewheel and also protect your frame, you can use them to balance on but thats cheating (in uci anyway)
