dannytrialskid
Hello, Just wondering if anyone has used the Echo TR Lever 2011 to replace their normal HS33 lever body and lever? If not the 2011 version, then what about the older version? I'm thinking of doing it and was wondering whether they are better, are they reliable/durable? Just annoying when the HS33 lever body keeps blady cracking. I know you can cut it, but what's the point! Thanks in advance.

dannytrialskid
...to stop it cracking? You know when it cracks at the bottom and people cut it at an angle. See pic. Mark W
If you grind it/cut it from new, it doesn't crack.
smithy83
just wondering how people are cracking these,is it from landing on the lever body or are they cracking from the point of pulling them to hard or at a funny angle? ive landed on mine loads of times and never had an issue so just wondered realy. dannytrialskid
I know, but is the echo version better?
AdamR28
Their brakes ARE designed for trials - they don't have the same form as the Magura one. I've never seen (or even head of) one of the bodies crack, in fact.
dannytrialskid
Ok so it is better then Going to get one for my HS33 when my lever body cracks. Could be a while yet, but oh well.
Mark W
It'll be even longer if you grind that bit off, which is what I was getting at before
dannytrialskid
It'll be even longer if you grind that bit off, which is what I was getting at before Yeah I am going to - Was meant to do it ages, but I keep forgetting. Has a tiny line there, hasn't grown any longer for a while so will still be best to do it ASAP.
Matt Burrows
It still makes me laugh when people complain about magura levers cracking. My current lever has lasted nearly 5 years, I cut it with a hacksaw on day 1 which took about 5 mins max!
monkeyseemonkeydo
just wondering how people are cracking these,is it from landing on the lever body or are they cracking from the point of pulling them to hard or at a funny angle? Nope, just Magura using a stupid design (when used for trials anyway) which results in a major stress raiser at the corner. I ground mine after it started cracking and ran it for another 2 years without any further issues- smoothing that region really does work. AJ9604
So am I right in thinking that I have to cut or file the piece off where the red line is, if someone can post a picture up of one that has been cut off or filled away that would be great so I can see what it should look like. Cheers AJ
Matt Burrows
The reason they crack is the sharp 90° bend (red circle in the photo below) concentrates any stress going through the lever to that one point (a stress riser). Anything from a crash or knock to the lever, or even just pulling the brake hard will create a lot of stress at that point, this is why they crack so easily. This is also why they are so much stronger once they have been modified. Cut the lever (yellow lines in the photo below) and file the metal so it is smooth, removing the sharp edge/corner. This removes the stress riser so any force going through the lever is spread evenly across its edge, no more cracks! The second photo shows my lever.
