But I would like to get some more feedback just so i know more of other peoples opinions. As i'm typing this, Staying High is playing. This doesn't feel Dubby much either and i'm half way in. If all your tracks are like this and you want them to be like more mainstream stuff, you definitely need some deepy sounds. Dubstep is all about heavy, punchy snares and pretty hard kicks - your stuff sounds like it would sound if it were played live on a real drum kit. If that's the sort of sound you're going for, then you've pulled it off well. If not, look into some decent sample packs and start whacking plenty of different effects on the drums, or layering different drums. For example, in one of my drum and bass tracks I used a long snare, a clap and a punchy snare all at once to create a powerful sound. I used to just pick one snare I liked and it always sounded weak, you need to use more drums I reckon after listening to several different tunes i beg to differ, 5 of them only had claps and most of them were sick tunes. most commercial dubstep is of that formular im sure ? i do layer my snares and kicks aswell, all of the tracks on my soundcloud have atleast 2 layers of kicks and snares, i reckon i just need to have the release longer on the snares. and by the way all my music is made on logic 5.5 with shitty hifi speakers! But then people will always listen to stuff on different setups so i suppose you could say it doesn't matter Listened to a few more. Still the same mellow sounds. Answerphone is very cool! I think some more work with it and it could sound amazing, but it's definitely no where near dub imo. Your tracks seem to have constant flow with no change in speed which does make for extra chillness. Sorry can't explain as i don't work with music. Be good to see some other work too. You released those tracks, you obviously think it sounds good so why bother trying to make it fit in with whatever genre seems to be the latest fad? Drums could do with a little bit of tightening up, but not so much so that you lose the chilled feel. I'm liking the clean, understated bass quite a lot. I see you're in Glastonbury... Music is for experimenting with...step away from the flock... thats what im trying to do really, make my own genre in a way or atleast a sound that is unique to me! but in doing this i seamed to have lost sight of reason that i wanted to start producing for. cheers dave! ive got more tunes of similar genre, i was wondering if i was worth making a 5 -6 track ep. and selling it on the cheep would be a good idea, and ive got some radio play lined up. Don't do this, give it away for free - it's the only way to make a decent impact these days unless you're absolutely top notch. Host it online somewhere and just link people to it. Then get some cards made up (like business cards) with the address on it on one side and artist/ep info on the other - that's for when you meet people you want to give it to, without the cost of burning CDs and the artwork that goes with them... GaZaa Posted January 25, 2011 Report Share Posted January 25, 2011 I really like the sound but struggling to hear any bass cutting through, I get the idea of what sort of sound but my studio monitors can be quite unforgiving with the bass side of things and that only gets better with experience and different monitoring systems. As someone mentioned before the snares could maybe do with some processing to give them the same sort of electronic synthetic sound as the rest of the track. Digging the mellow stuff alot. Got any links to some naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasty dubstep? havnt really been on those vibes recently, but soon !
