Ali C
Grip as good as a Der Kaiser? Really? Really? well, no, just no.
gary-mac
Really? well, no, just no. Yeah agreed, its not a bad tyre but as said above its not in the same class as the Der kaiser.
Matt Vandart
Indeed and Ali it might help if you read the other posts this was revealed ages ago.
Ali C
just further adding the point
Matt Vandart
Good cos its a point that must be made, it is not as good grip as the Der kaiser, I don't think that is just down to the compound. Anyone got ant ideas on what actually does contribute to the grip of a tyre??
N.Wood
Mostly compound I'd say, tread pattern would have something to do with it, carcass thickness, pressure, rider weight, the material you're riding on, rim width/tyre footprint... Matt Vandart
Note of warning, do not use this tyre in the rain, it is utter shite, complete and utter garbage. Any suggestions on what tyre I should get now cos this tyre nearly killed me today in the wet and it rains here loads? Not Der Kaiser or Rain King too heavy for an already too heavy bike. Ali C
Try-all lites seem pretty good.

Any suggestions on what tyre I should get now cos this tyre nearly killed me today in the wet and it rains here loads? Not Der Kaiser or Rain King too heavy for an already too heavy bike. Are they really that bad? The durometer according to Tarty is 50a, same as maxxis super tacky and try-all sticky lite, and better than the standard try all sticky (55a). I guess there is more to how grippy the compound is than just the durometer? But yeah other than the out of stock Trial Queen your only other light option is the tryall sticky light. I'd be interested to see how grippy the mountain king is compared to my big betty... P.S. Can't remember if I said but my tyre arrived last week safe and sound
Matt Vandart
Coolio As I said in the wet this tyre is lethal, I think it is more down to the shape of the knobbles, there is not much contacting the surface at the pressure you have to run it to stop it folding or flatting. Added to this is that the knobbles are tall compared to their surface area. If you look at the best gripping tyres such as the der kaiser and rain king they have (especially the der kaiser) large surface area knobbles so they are always gonna have more surface actually contacting. I think I am gonna go for the Rubber queen 2.2 or as Ali says the try all lite. I have to say the grip in the dry is very good, on rocks the other day (southerndown) it did not let me down once. AdamR28
I guess there is more to how grippy the compound is than just the durometer? For sure, rebound speed is very important (perhaps more so than durometer), but that's really hard to test...
