RiderRace
In need of a new BB for my echo pure, and felt it would be a good idea to get a feeler on some decently priced BB's. I've been checking out the Truvativ Giga Pipe DH, due to the cost (cheap!), but was wondering if I'd be better of spending some more money for higher quality trials parts? The Ti Echo BB didn't look too shabby either. Let me know what you think/ opinions?? Thanks, Ty Edit: specifically looking for an ISIS BB, if it makes any difference. Kenny--Trials
Trialtech Sport lite is a good option, but if money is a problem, i sugest investing in square taper bb and cranks. They are not as good as isis but a lot cheaper. And i strongly advise not to get any bb not made for trials purposes. This may result in breaking parts when doing something you are not meant to do on any normal bike. For example rear wheel hopping or paedal kicks.
RiderRace
I've already got the ISIS cranks, so I'm definitely going for an ISIS BB. Any reviews on the Giga Pipe DH? If the trials specific BB's are so much better, what makes them so? I'm just not sold on the trials specific BB, as I've put several MTB BB's through their paces, and they've all held up. Thanks for the opinion, Ty
Mark W
Getting the right length is often the hardest part with BBs, as almost all trials setups require a 68x128 BB. If you're going for a more trials orientated one, the Trialtech Sport Lite is the best out there. Their bearings have twice the amount of bearings per cartridge compared to other BBs which gives them a longer bearing life, they've got a nice strong spindle (Ali tested his for over a year without breaking it, and that was doing Clan demos involving a 10ft drop and backflipping every show, as well as his normal riding), and they've also got a neat feature in their removable spindle spacers which mean more BB tools fit. All in all, a pretty awesome BB. It also happens to be one of the lightest steel-spindled BBs out there... EDIT: The Echo Ti BB won't fit your frame either. RiderRace
So, TT sport lite is the way to go... Just the money is coming down to the wire with a new semester of books to throw on top of the pile of poor college student bills Absolutely not going to be getting on it as hard as Ali C would, but definitely a good person to put the BB through it's paces. Upon further research, you're right. Echo Ti is only for 24" frames with a smaller spindle length. I was basing my opinion off of CBtrials.com, but that is currently nil, as they are going out of business unfortunately. Thanks for your help, Ty
Shop_Guy
I currently run a reset titanium bottom bracket cost 108$ weight 221 grams including all the hardware 68mmx128mm so far no issues, seems pretty smooth bearing are user replaceable so it's fixable at home assuming you own a crank arm puller and bottom bracket extractor good luck
RiderRace
Thanks for the info, shop guy. Not looking to spend quite that much, but we'll see how it turns out.
Dave Anscombe
gigga pipe dh put up with all my drops and drop gaps for 2 years really good bb if weight is not an issue
RiderRace
Now that's what I was looking for! The thing looks just a beefy, is half the price, and weighs less than 100 grams more than the TT sport lite. Over the whole bike that, is very little difference IMO.
