bikeperson45
Do these exist? I can see they're a bit thicker than my Shimao chain pinsand can't find them when I search. Thanks
Matt Burrows
No they don't. Its only really Shimano chains that use a special joining pin. Most chains you can just split and rejoin with the same pin if you are careful and don't push the pin too far out. Or you can use a split link. bikeperson45
I had tried that, yet it was still really hard to get back in. And isn't it bad to reuse a pin? Thanks
Matt Burrows
Not if you're careful and do it right. Although saying that Kool pins can be really stiff and a nightmare if you don't have a professional chain tool. Infact Kool chains are just all round rubbish these days, go for the kmc z510 or z610. You can get the z610 for under £10, and in 13 years of riding trials its the best chain I've ever used.
monkeyseemonkeydo
While we're on chains... Master links- yay or nay? Talking about the reusable ones with spring clip type thing: I used to use them, never had a failure but was convinced that they were evil so have always joined them properly since. However, the Fourplay Team came with a correct length chain so I 'had' to use the master link thing. What's the consensus?!
forteh
No problems if theyre installed correctly, they are no weaker than any other link imho The only thing that can fail is the clip, install it correctly and inspect it occasionally and it will be fine.
