max-t
Right. So Have just got a new Monitor (Samsung P2450) and have it hooked up to both my computer by VGA and X box 360 by HDMI . Now the problem is the audio. I have a Turtle Beach x11 headset with both the usb which goes into the console and the audio and video wires too. Before, when I was using my Tv audio video cables went into the scart and then the tv to get the audio. So my question is, should I be looking at getting one of THESE to get the audio from the Xbox to my headset. Many thanks in advance to all Nerds. Where would we be without you? Tomm
Yep, unless the monitor has some sort of audio out. By the way, the word nerd is kind of derogatory. If you want help, you'd be better off asking for geeks

The 3.5mm line out will be at a line level volume, which means it's not got enough juice to power your speakers, only just enough to send a signal to an external amp. Why would you need to buy a new console? you said your xbox is hdmi capable so you won't get any other connections on a newer one. What exactly is the tv cable anyway? Your monitor has HDMI, DVI-D, VGA inputs and 3.5mm and optical outputs. All of which have space to go in at the same time. Instead of spending money on a new cable, might i suggest having a look on ebay for a headphone amp ;)If you can get one with 2 optical inputs you'll be able to connect your monitor to the amp so the sound from the xbox works and you'll plug the computer into the amp too. Not only this but a headphone amp will make everything sound a f**kLOAD better! Something like this (or cheaper here) would work a treat and you could plug the xbox in via optical and the computer into the RCA (red and white) using one of these. Like this: http://www.chadledford.com/?p=50 I have no idea if that still works on the newer models though.
max-t
Eh? TV cable? Yer. I meant the big chunky one that goes into the back of the XB. That's it Tom, the HDMI is too close to the other connection to fit them both in at the same time. I'll give that a try. Thanks for your Help. Krisboats
That method can make your hdmi connection loose though as it's still a tight fit and that can lead to handshaking difficulties between themonitor and the xbox. Max, you shouldn't need them both in anyway. Your monitor has an optical out socket so the audio goes from the xbox to the monitor through hdmi then the monitor will send it out through the optical cable and 3.5mm line out jack on the back of the monitor. Okay, so the turtle beach headphones go into the xbox usb for power and then you connect up the audio through 3.5mm cables for audio and mic? So just connect the xbox to the monitor through hdmi, then plug the headphones into the monitor 3.5mm out. There's no need to use optical or the xbox component cable with them. Tomm
You don't need both you only need to use the HDMI cable. That's not true if your monitor has no speakers or audio out. I have no idea whether his does...

Tomm
Yeah I read what you wrote, but he also said at least once that he didn't have audio out so thought I'd give him the benefit of the doubt - perhaps he has an OEM model or something weird. I don't really care.

max-t
Ok, so the monitor only has the audio out plug/jack,the x11's have both audio and video cables which need to be plugged in. I have a small sub and speakers which I use for my computer audio and if i connect the headset through that I have to keep removing it when I want to play audio on my speakers through the computer. I just want a way around this, because its annoying. Edited January 16, 2011 by max-t
max-t
one of these. So If i get one the these, wang it into the back on the monitor, then the headset into the other end and just have my speakers as usual in the computers audio out I will be able to have audio through the headset when I use the X box and audio though the speakers when I switch to using the computer. This is what Iv'e been trying to get around. Maybe I explained it bad in the first post? How is the lens anyway?

If your headphones have a built in amp like the website seem to suggest they do then yeah, but you would need the female RCA connectors on the cable. So one of these would do it. Or one of these. Basically any 3.5mm to female RCA adapter will do the job. The lens as been great cheers mate, a load better than my crappy ebay one i was using before!
