V Brakes

Hello from my experience Avid V brakes have been the best for trials which you can be very good with some decent V pads you should find that they will be the best :)

Or shimano which are probably better for the price...

An Avid will be great but theres no point buying the ultimate.

Shimano XT, deore or LX all seem to have worked great for me.

The LX was acctually better than the XT.

Any of the above with an Avid SD7 lever or a Shimano XTR lever will feel great.

A standard v brake with some heatsink pads and booster and your as good as hs33s think vs feel better like that than mags as the levers aren't metal you feel as if you'll brake them. But decent pads are the key

Yes they are...They're aluminium, what made you think they weren't?

Older HS11's aren't.

spot on, though I am not a fan of XTR levers. I use the speed dial function quite a bit on SD7 levers and the XTR version really doesn't cut it.

I would recommend some TNN LGV pads (best backings for vees and best material). if you get a booster, try and search for a carbon XTR or Salsa one, they are stiffer and will improve the hold of the brake 5 fold! If you can't find either of those boosters, a cheap one will be better than nothing.

Also pretty important is some decent cables. I swear by Shimano SP5 and I refuse to use anything else. It's pretty much oversized gear outer, so it's completely compression-less (= stiffer brakes) and is very very smooth in operation with a small squirt of GT85 in there. Don't forget to set the arms up with as little tension as possible to really get a good feeling brake.

Once you have done all that and set the brake up, you'll find it perhaps doesn't have as much bite as a magura, but it more than makes up for it with sheer holding power (more important than bite).

I was about to correct you then i remembered Vee brake versions blushing.gif

I use very light oil but yer, lubed up cables is a must.

Wasn't meant to put that meant to say summert along the lines of cheap shite metal. What you lo think of the booster on chain reaction the chrome one may be worth a investment
