The hub you returned Gary, we gave it to Cap to get him out of a tight spot, worked fine for months. I calculated that the splines were still ~9 times strong enough (using the breaking load of the chain to create a torque around the sprocket), which is good to know. Threaded works just as well but this is more user friendly, being much easier to replace sprockets. My cassette on the mtb is a doddle to change compared to the sprocket on my TR hub.
