RhysRoach
for front and rear? or still choose the hs33 rear ? thanks.
Luke Rainbird
What bike are you riding? Does it have mounts? What style of riding? What do you look for in a brake, in terms of bite/hold/modulation? Discs are generally silent, which is nice.
RhysRoach
I am in the process of building a onza ice. It has disc and hs33 mounts on frame with disc only forks. I ride mostly street but sometimes natural. I like the brake to bite and hold when i want it to like on drops etc. But i eint pretty sure what to choose because i need something that i will be able to learn side hoping and hopping biggers gaps? Many Thanks.
RhysRoach
because the hs33 sometimes grips to much ? any suggestions? thanks.
davey1991
because the hs33 sometimes grips to much ? any suggestions? thanks. Disk would be better for modulation. The brake will be less on or off.

p_ruskin
but i heared they slip alot when people do drops thanks. Mine always used to do this, get a rear Magura and a front TechTrial, just make sure you get decent pads and a grind for the Mag though. Azarathal
If your disk is slipping you're doing something wrong. A properly set up disk will generally have loads more hold than a Hs33
Mark W
Indeedy. I've seen way more HS33s slip than I've ever seen discs slip. Discs just hold amazingly well, so I don't really understand how you'd find they 'slipped' when doing dropoffs? Either way - dual discs on mods totally wins, and the Tech levers are boss. RhysRoach
so you are saying got for the trial tech brakes? double disc on my ice? thanks.

After listening to Mark before, I bought a pair of Hope Mono Trial Tech's, and never looked back! They're spot on.
Matt Vandart
Agreed, discs are so good on mod I wonder why anyone uses anything else.
RhysRoach
dont they slip atall >?
Mark W
Only if you're doing it wrong. They offer better hold than HS33s, so should "slip" less. Agreed, discs are so good on mod I wonder why anyone uses anything else. Some people prefer the feel of HS33s/can't get used to the feel of discs which is fair enough, but discs are definitely my preferred option on mod. bella
iv had a few goes on double disk and think your better off with disk on front and a hs33 on back i use a bb7 and a 2011 and never have a problem keep on grinding my rim and it holds well good i also get good feel from the hs33
aener
I had a BB7 on the back for a while, and it felt lovely, but I just couldn't get it snappy enough. If you're going rear disk, do it properly and get a Hope. Ridden someone else's with a rear Hope and it's lush. Tech levers are the way forwards if you can afford them. Which way do you sidehop? If learning to go bigger with them is one of your goals, and you go to the left, I'd strongly advise a Magura.
RhysRoach
yeah i hop to the left so you rekon go for maggie ?
p_ruskin
yeah i hop to the left so you rekon go for maggie ? Tis a good idea, unless you have a large collection of spare rotors or enough money to buy new ones ever time you don't quite make a side. I always used to bend rotors when I was DD, and its just a pain really, much more happy now I'm running dual Magura.
Laurence--Trials
Or there is ways you can make a disc protector. Someone on the forum did it a while ago on a rockman aurum (spelling?) I'll try and find the pictures. EDIT: This topic. mods
but i heared they slip alot when people do drops thanks. I used to run hopes. They never slipped on drops, only on gaps and ups that i didnt quite make. I hated them personally, but many people will dissagree. Personal preferance really. Kieran Morrison
If you have the choice between the 2 because you have both mounts, go for F&R disc (hope are supposivly better for rear) for these reasons: Better hold, Silent, great bite, good modulation and you can ride in the wet. This is talking about rear disc brakes in general, not just the hope. A bad side to them is if they are 2mm or so out of place, the brake will fail. Badly. Stefkeeee
I don't want to hijack your topic. But I am in the same position as you. For some strange reason my disc won't fit. There's not enough space between the hub and the frame.
