isitafox
Right guys it's dilemma time, now I've got my hands on some cash I've not had to earn I can afford my new stock frame but I'm stuck on which to buy. I'm caught between the born or neon X-ray, I'm a bit of a geo virgin having only ridden 2 proper trials frames (06 control and zenith) which were virtually the same so I can't say which of the above will be better for me. I plan on trying to enter the full british champs next year (only on blue though!) so needs to be suitable for that but do I spend £400 and get a 2011 born, £50 less for the 2010 without a built in booster or £250 on a X-ray and get some other new bits as well?? Anyone already ride any of these and can advise me on how they feel??
N.Wood
In my opinion... The best all round, do everything, perfect geo is +25 to +40 bb height, 380 to 385mm stays, 1075 - 1090 wheelbase and 72/73 degre HA. Whatever is around that is what I'd pick. Matt Vandart
Dude the Geo on that neon is IMO comptastic. My only gripe with it is the disc brake mount is 160mm Otherwise I would be buying one. That Born is nice, bit of a barge for I, I would not skimp on the £50 there is a booster on the 2011 for a reason dude and it may not just be about brake flex. Any particular reason you have chosen these frames? I would keep hold of my cash, wait for the 2011 echo which pricewise is in between the two and way better than the both, if only for the tensioning system which is gonna be proper bo. Ali C
the Neon and Born frames have very high bbs, I would definitely say try before you buy! in a comp situation you may find it hinders you rather than helps you if you don't have much experience of extreme geo AND the whole comp riding lark. A higher bb will mean your weight is higher and more top heavy, balancing won't be as easy, plus you may find you start riding like you are on a pogostick and just backhop everywhere, this will use a lot of energy nad knacker you out quicker in comps. You may also find that when you land something to backwheel, you will fall off the back (I know I did). Unless you KNOW you will like the more extreme geo and are willing to sacrifice rideability for ease of rear wheel control, I would recommend something less extreme and as much as I hate them, the Onza Limey 3 doesn't have too bad geo. Also worth considering are the Because simple (cheapest on Tarty), Ashton Justice (heavy but nice geo), Echo pure (bb is a tad low, but not a bad frame), the Zoo Piranha (only the short left and ugly, but nice light strong frames). Matt Vandart
Nad knacker! I was going to suggest a Limey 3 or an Ashton Juctice myself, Since I have had mine I have progressed loads especially on rocks, but you seemed to be tending towards the pogo stick choice so I didn't bother. Also there is a dude selling one on here cheap as chips. You would have a wad o cash left to spend on lightweight gucci shiz also! I have managed to get my Ashton down to 10.6kg and that is with a hope pro 2 trials hub so it would be piss to loose even more weight with front freewheel I also have some heavy forks on there (Try all) and duel disc!. As it goes I rekon I will have it sub 10kg by the end of January with all my universal gift vouchers I got for Christmas!
isitafox
Thanks for all the advice boys, I think that after sleeping on it I'm gonna go for the new Because Simple. At 1090, 380, +35, 71.5 I reckon it hits a nice middle ground, its cheap enough to warrant me to buy some other bits and I don't really need to go mad on an awesome frame as I'm not challenging for the elite class! I did consider an Ashton but I don't think I could keep the weight down enough, still might swing to a new zoo if they've arrived by the time I order but if not I'll be happy with the because.
