krazykid009
Hey all, My the paintwork on my frame and forks is starting to look a little tired, so I have decided it is time to take it all off, and either leave them raw or spray them up. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what paint strippers I should use, and any tips. Also do I need to lacquer them afterwards or can I leave the metal bare. The frame set is an old Diamondback Kabuki Mono one, and I will attach a picture later and see what you guys think I should do In terms of spraying it, as at the moment I have no idea as to what color frame would go with my gold color scheme. Thanks guys James
matt.price
hey, i use nitromors paint stripper. It tells you how to do it on the back of the tin but... here it is.. apply a thick layer with a paint brush using a dabbing motion . ( more the better in my case ) wait for 5 minutes. apply another layer targeting blistered paint ! Leave for 20 minutes. DO NOT let it try out , apply more in case, clean off with water of something .. hope this helped .. matt
krazykid009
Ok awesome, a quick google reveled they sell nitromorse at Halfords. Should I wait until it warms up, or will it still work in these minus conditions? Also do I need to lacquer it or not? Thanks James

Julius Czar
If your frame is alu then you wont have to laquer it, but if your doing something to it like polish it its good to laquer it to keep the finish looking nice over time

I've used Hammerite before, but didn't get on well with it
Azarathal
Hammerite is terrible. Halfords own brand is the best spray i've used.

I didn't get on with Hammerite at all...If I go with spraying then I will use Halfords I think. Alu will oxidize if left untreated, best get some lacquer on to be sure. Yeah that's sensible.... How easy is the lacquer to remove? The plan is that I ride raw for a few weeks, and decide during that time whether I want to stay raw or spray her up. dann2707
Wet and dry paper will remove laquer. Start foff with a coarse grade and work your way higher to a smoother grade to get the best finish. (:
