matt.price
Hi guys, indeed of some help.. I have reccently had my bike back from local bike store after they repaired one of my threads on my 4 bolt mounts. But now i have built my bike up.... on the right side of my mounts ( not the re-paired thread ) my bolts don't seem to go in properly !! the bolts wind into the threads fine till they go really tight .. but the bolts arn't down enough so they don't clamp the mounts ! It is the exactly the same setup as before i had it repaired ! Help !! any help would be great... thanks loads matt
PeanuckleJive
Did they helicoil the mount? if they have, they might have left the little tab in the bottom of the helicoil, and your bolt might be butting up against it. Either that, or the threads on your bolt are worn or dirty, have a good look at the threads and look for knackered bits

isitafox
Have you tried dropping an allen key or something into the hole to see how deep it goes in case something is stuck in the bottom?

isitafox
Can only assume it's been cross threaded then, take it back to the bike shop and see if they know owt about it.

If you've got a brand new one lying around, try that too
Alex Dark
Sounds like your bolts are bottoming out., get a link of chain, take out the little roller and use that as a spacer washer on the bolt. Sorted

isitafox
sorry but what does bottoming out mean? cheers for all the help He means they're screwing in as far as they can go, but that would be odd as I assume the bolts went in fine before. If it's been cross threaded your bolt could be screwing in the dodgy thread thats been cut in and when it gets to the end of that and meets the normal thread it won't go any further, thats what I meant!
