monty221ti
Hi there, My Hope brake dosn't brake at all, i'm running a 160mm standard hope trial disc but also tried a Onza dics. it's set up perfectly and the bleed is also ok. Do some of you guys know what could be wrong with it?

monkeyseemonkeydo
Bit more info? What does the lever feel like, are the pads moving and making contact with the rotor? Does the brake make honking noises when it drags?
trialsmax04
mine makes loud honking noises when dragged
Mark W
Generally means you've got crap on the rotor and/or pads in that case. Repeating what you'd normally do to bed in a Hope should sort that out, in most cases...
monty221ti
the lever feels good, it's not that spungy, only a tiny little bit, but i can't bleed it better, and the pads are moving out as they are suposed to. on a ride today i put water on it and drove with the brake pulled, it helpt a bit, should i just repeat it in every ride? sorry for my poor english:)
Sam T
Are the pads new?
monty221ti
no, but there is lots of material left:D and there is no oil or so on them.
monkeyseemonkeydo
there is no oil or so on them. Are you sure?! If everything else is ok as you say then the pads or rotor must be contaminated. Try boiling the pads and rotor in water and then sticking the pads in a hot oven for 10-15 minutes. (Wait for them to cool down) then refit and re-bed in using water or whatever. See if that makes a difference.
monty221ti
i will try that then, i cant see anything on the rotor though?

omgnoseat
should i put the rotor in the oven also or just the pads? Just the pads, you can use alcohol to clean your rotor. I see alot of hope mono trial related issues lately, could it have something to do with the cold?
monty221ti
is spirit okay to clean it with? maybe i could clean it and the boil it?
omgnoseat
is spirit okay to clean it with? maybe i could clean it and the boil it? spirit is alright aswell if I remember correctly. I'm not sure if you would want to heat the disc, I think it could warp if not handled correctly, spirit or alcohol should be sufficient. ogre
disc rotors go in the dish washer, no detergent just salt...

Greetings
Really? That's a new one on me . Yeah, that works. Or you can just use dish washing fluid.

monty221ti
how do i set up my caliper totally square?
monkeyseemonkeydo
how do i set up my caliper totally square? The proper way is to get the mount faced. Any good bike shop should be able to do it but they'll probably charge a good £20-£25 for it. The other option is to cut some thin caliper spacer washers in half to try and take account for any misalignment. You'd also need to play with the number of washers at each mount to get the pad sitting straight on the rotor of course.
monty221ti
what do you mean with "cut some thin caliper spacer washers in half to try and take account for any misalignment"?
