hi there.

snapped my rockman spades lastnite hs33models,i had trialtechs before that with cracked round brake mount.so my question is has anybody got any opinions or reviews on any other 4bolt forks please.i only had trialtechs 4months and the rockmans about 3months so ideally i want a set of forks that are goin to last abit longer.

if anybody wants to see what a snapped set of forks look like at bottom of steerer il gladly post a picture of my face as its now printed there :giggle: .the result of the forks snapping i now hav a swollen jaw, blackeye and swollen cheekbone and cuts.

your input would be greately appreciated thanks.

What were you doing when the trialtechs snapped?

And Without sounding too personal how much do you weigh and what's your riding style?

trialtech just started creaking then noticed a crack when loading bike in car.rockmans snapped when i was doin a quarter crank tap onto a 3ft tall post.

i weigh 12stone and my style is pretty smooth im not a basher at all.do alot of to fronts, gaps, sides and comp stuff.my setup is all lite comp bits so cant bash fings.wouldnt say i abused forks at all.

I'm running a par now, 14 stone and I'm not that smooth.

Should I be worried or do you not think that that was just a faulty fork??

Have you been in touch with Tarty about a warranty replacement at all? You may or may not be entitled to a replacement set, but it's worth an ask.

Are you running a rim brake?

just spoke to tarty, sending them off today then pics goin to rockman so they should be warranty as its not an area that gets abused in the way of hitting it on walls etc like your chainstays would normally get.

well i was with ryan crisp when it happened and i know he had a pair of the 20" on disc and they snapped in the same place and hes the same weight as me!

it was probly the lighest tap you could do as wheel was rolling of the edge for the tap not like i was henching it up to front from the ground.

id probly be wurried and certainly wouldnt wana run another set.they were 4months old and done 3comps on them and sum street but havent rode that much as i got a bad knee problem at the minute so just been taking it easy on bike.

Yeah your a light and smooth rider and never tap hard into things and when you done it you hardly even hit it if you did!

Yeah mine lasted about 3 months in exactly the same place,

When you look on the forks its clear that they have been cracked for ages and then just snapped,

Very disapointing considering they are stupidly priced aswell!

Think they need to spend less time on the fancy dropout and mounting area and sort the steer tube out.

The Trialtechs have got updated 4-bolt mounts since the last pair you bought, so they should last longer now. They're still the strongest 4-bolt forks out of any other out there...

from what i remember the the trialtechs have a thicker steerer than rockmans so that will help.the trialtechs were alot stiffer forks and can see the changes in the weld finishing round mounts.

fingers crossed as i dont want to hit my face again as im really hungry but at the min carnt eat cos my jaw hurts to much with all the swelling :(

Checking your bike over every now and then is really helpful if you know you are hard on parts, stuff will ALWAYS crank before it breaks.

Ryan - we've never had any 20" Trialtech forks returned, if you have broken some and they were purchased from us please send them back.

i had my forks out two weeks ago when i fitted a new headset the nite before the essexbiketrial comp and didnt see anything as i always give everything a clean and check over before i put back together as im abit anal like that, and ridden three times since then.

think ryan was talking about the 20"rockman disc forks he had.

you said rockmans are stronger before

make your mind up

When did I say that? Everything about the Trialtech forks are super good (especially the steerer/crown, which is where the Rockman forks snapped), and the 4-bolt mounts are good too. The built-in booster on the Rockman forks is a good thing, but the Trialtechs have been updated so they should be fine.

god knows just guess it wasnt my nite.

Quick question: I'm interested in the trialtech forks, but I want the Try-All 3D Forged stem, will I be able to run them both because iv noticed the stem top cap is different to the top cap which is supplied especially for the forks???

yeh you can chris.disregard the trialtech topcap and knock a starnut in and use the 3d topcap thats what i did or buy a expanding nut they use for carbon road forks cut the tophat of it so it goes inside fork as they designed for normal square cut steerer and job done.thats what in using at min with the 3d stem as found the starnut never sat quite perfect.

I don't really get what you mean... I know Darryl snapped his Rockman forks and cracked a set of 4-bolt TT forks because he told me on the phone this morning, unless you're talking about Ryan who I knew had broken his Rockman forks? I was just saying the Trialtechs are the better fork, and I can't remember recommending the Rockman forks over TTs at any point...

I cant seem to find the expanding nut your on about, do you have a link for it? also if i used the star nut would it fit ok in the steerer tube? as there's threads in it.
