onza1
hi all, i am looking at buying a cheap stock maybe the onza cleaner (£330) and was wondering if i bought a single speed kit how could you get rid of the gripshift off the handlebars, also would you recomend a new stem its just that it looks quite flat to me> any help welcomed also upgrades that could make the bike even better thanks
Alex Dark
Personally, I'd either stump up the extra £300 for the Koxx levelboss on tarty, or buy a second hand bike. You'll just end up replacing 90% of the above bike relatively quickly otherwise. In answer to the shifter question, you woul dhave to lock out the rear mech, then remove the cables and shifter. onza1
May I just ask why I would have to replace it, also I quite like the Ashton justice but can't seem to get one secondhand is there no other cheap stocks out there. Take it the gripshift could be a ball ache then ?
fatwomble
Grip shift is easy to remove, then just buy a pair of new grips
onza1
So would anyone recommend the cleaner or not
isitafox
For the amount it would cost just buy a 2nd hand bike off here. Think Matt Vandart may have an Ashton, try sending him a PM!
6ft-midget
I would recommend the M.A.D. Phase 1.2 It's a relatively cheap bike with a nice riding geo and all that really needs upgrading is the rear hub and brake pads.
bikeperson45
I've ridden a Cleaner and didn't like it that much, hub took a while to respond, brakes could hardly skid and overall felt sluggish to me. It may just be me, but I'd agree with what's already been said and look for second hand
Luke Dunstan
If you like it, its fine if you're just starting out. But long term you'd soon realise a lot of the standard components aren't up to the job of more serious riding. Switch a couple of parts, and it'll be fine as a beginners bike. onza1
It's funny that u mentioned the mad as I just rang about getting hold of one, are they worth it and what would need upgrading on one also the 1.2 or 1.1 ?

Not as much as the Cleaner, both of them have Maguras so you'll be sorted brake wise. You may want to convert to single speed, but I ran gears for a while and was fine with them. Phases over the Cleaner

You should be able to fit a single speed kit yourself, all it consists of is undoing the lockring holding the cassette on and sliding it off then sliding on some spacers and a single cog. As for pads your probably best looking in the pad review thread and making your own mind up as this subject is prone to starting some long and pointless arguments! (start at the end and work your way back through the thread though!) and you won't have to worry about bleeding them, they'll be ready to ride!
