LukasMcNeal Posted December 13, 2010 Report Share Posted December 13, 2010 I was fitting my Heatsink refills into my TNN backings and I thought it would be nice if I made a guide to save you lot some time First of all, you'll be using a knife so don't use it if you dont feel confident or if your a complete tool. Knives are sharp So be careful and I take no responsibility if you detatch a finger or two!! Firstly what you'll need to do it Pad Refills, Backings, Stanley knife (or equivalent), Pot of water, Super glue, A file (may not be required, depends on accuracy of cut) Optional: A vice, this is seriously helpful when cutting/filing. Step 1, Mark out where you have to cut. I used version 1 as I only thought of 1A after! :$ What it should look like after marking and cutting. Step 2, Place pad into a vice if you have one. Cut a "X" into the centre section USE WATER WHEN CUTTING AS A LUBRICANT!! Step 3, cut the centre section out by holding the blade at an angle. Step 4, Cut remaining side piece by first cutting top to bottom then left to right. Step 5, The end will be fine but the middle will probably look similar to this. To ensure a good fit you'll probably have to file the middle section so it is flat. Step 6, Now the pads should be ready to fit. Use a decent amount of super glue and apply to the backings, then press the material into the backings and secure if you have a vice like so. Turn vice so it squishes a bit then remove excess glue, Undo vice so it is still firmly gripping pads but no enough to deform them. Leave it for a few hours minimum, best if you can keep it overnight. Taaa daaaaaaaa! Some fresh looking pads! 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

rupintart Posted December 13, 2010 Report Share Posted December 13, 2010 Although this is a great post for newbies and very informative, if a person can't figure out how to trim a brake pad to fit into a backing, they probably shouldn't have a razor in their possession. It's like the people who ask "how do I grind my rim?" forteh Posted December 14, 2010 Report Share Posted December 14, 2010 I would have said that original magura fitment (HSB/phat/rockman etc) were the industry standard, as magura pretty much have a monopoly on hydraulic rim brakes and most of the pads manufactured follow the same form factor. TNN for some reason decided that they would change the form factor for their pads, not sure on the reasoning as the original size is proven; only reason I can think is to try to force people to only use their refills.
