Highlands!

Alright people, around march every year a few old mates and I travel to the Highlands for a week of walks and generally larking about.

Wondered if anyone could suggest any good places to look for walks/hiking?

Last year over the weekend of the 17th (I think), we did Ben Nevis, most of Loch Ness, part of the ring of steel, oh and popped up to Skye . Thing is, we haven't got any serious kit anymore, just standard hiking kit not proper mountain gear. (we should be okay on Everest but Ring of Steel forced us back due to lacking crampons/harnesses etc)

So looking for realistic routes bearing in mind we're going in mid march.

Cheers in advance!

Are you looking for day hikes or a wee but longer.

If your looking for just a day Then glomach falls is a nice hike. Na to hard but nice views. Or up to ben ato( Cant mind the spelling the now but will be updated when I do) all the 5 sisters of kintail and the south sheil ridge are decent hikes. Drop me a message if you need any more info.

What he said - basically any of the Munro's can be hiked without any serious gear... Just shove them into google and take your pick!

If you fancy a trek and some camping/bothying - theres the easy treks like the west highland way, or plenty a bit tougher... Try this http://www.scottishhighlandswebsite.co.uk/hiking-c100.html aint read it yet, but it should help.

If you want to know about anything in particular, drop a reply in here and Me and Lewis will try to help :)

Hi there! type in google 'Kinlochleven'

up here we have lots of places for walking.. from easy to very hard. and accommodation is cheap and cheerful at the 'blackwater hostel' where you get access to a kitchen washing machines etc. but the views on the top are stunning! let me know if you need any phone numbers, i would be more than happy to help :)

cheers guy's!!

I'm going to have a kerfuddle with the gang and see what specifics and intentions we can come up with. It's ideal that you're all able to give first hand info/advice.

I'll probably be on again to get some direct info on conditions nearer the time!!

We're all fairly experienced and fit, or nearly fit for some of them :P

I'll probably be on in the next day or two anyway to fire an idea across and see what shakes down!!

Lewis, am I right in assuming you're from Inverness? or Fort William?? we stayed in fort bill last year when we did Nevis and tried the Steel

Yup, we're heading to Fort William on the 26th of Feb. Hows the snow? is it mainly Ice or has the snow stayed on the ground?

Intend to do Nevis and another hike in the area.on the 27th and 28th

then we're planning on giving skiing a go (:o) any suggestions for 4 novices and a fairly adept ski-er?

More details on the rest of the week when we pin them down. Basically gonna swing up to Skye, Outer Hebrides, Lewis then free rein to visit stuff on the way back down!

The nevis range is alright. Can higher all the gear and can get a all day/ half day lift pass depending when you show up. Plus the place at the top is pretty good food wise. The snow is pretty much gone bar on the hills. Also any of the roads on higher ground would be abit iffy.. But the only place's you go above 1000 feet is coming from Glasgow to the Fort, Glengarry to Binloin junction and over Clunie. It shouldnt be to bad but just watch out.

You intrested in doing a spot of caving or anything when your here? Know a few caves on skye that are decent-ish sized.

That's and interesting one actually Lewis, I'll see what the score is, something that'd be good rain or shine!!
