krazykid009
Has anybody tried the aforementioned Phat Phuid? Both of my Maggies have been freezing. Before anyones says anything, they are bled with 50:50 mix of water to Antifreeze, but it's old and doesn't seem to want to work as it should, therefore i=both brakes freeze daily. Been looking at this stuff and wondered if it actually the miracle it is made out to be... feels like water, but doesn't freeze like it. Thanks James
Mark W
If you've got any other anti-freeze left, it may be worth just flushing your system out and re-bleeding it? If it's bled with a decent mix it really shouldn't ever be freezing up. I'd imagine it'd 'feel like water' because it's water-based?

krazykid009
I'm not sure, but it is the third bleed I'm on with it, and nothing's changed throughout...I'm pretty sure it must be the anti-freeze itself. Pretty sure I will try Phluid after hearing so many good reviews. How does Phluid compare to other products in terms of price and performance? Thanks James
Luke Rainbird
Perhaps Mike will back up his claims with a refund if the Phluid doesn't work?

Phatmike
How does Phluid compare to other products in terms of price and performance? James, there aren't really any comparable products on the market. Aside from water/antifreeze/vodka/champagne/beetle juice, or standard mineral oils, there's nothing out there suitable which is why it got developed. I'm pleased to see positive reviews around and that it's doing its job. Luke, I'd be more than happy to offer refunds for parts or products that don't meet their claims, but there's been enough testing and development to be assured that it just works. I can't guarantee that it'll add an extra half rotation to your 360s or be a suitable glazing agent on roast duck, it will make your brake feel nicer and protect it. It does, however taste quite cherry-y, but don't drink it! I did that part of the testing myself so you don't have to.

krazykid009
It's good to see someone designing something new and innovative. I just found the monty brake oil... has anyone tried that? What else is there to use, is cooking oil usable? Sorry for the questions, I have two bikes and annoyingly both are unrdeable Thanks James

Sorry, should have made it clearer , I don't have any Monty oil, I meant found it on Tartybikes Has anyone used anything unusual in their brakes that works? i.e. household stuff that could be used until I get payed and can get some Phat Phluid :/ Thanks James Edited December 10, 2010 by krazykid009
Phatmike
James, I'd just use water for now (the temperature's risen so it shouldn't freeze until we get another cold spell). It'll also be easier to rinse through with Phluid vs any oil-based fluids.

It's a bit of a pain because my bikes are used for me to get to school daily, so being frozen is a pain in the ass as I then have to walk. Thanks anyways guys, I am pretty sure there will be n order placed for some Phat Phluid some time soon. James

It works, but it's defenitely as responsive as water.

If you keep your brake at 90 degrees, perhaps. Otherwise, cooking oil is sloow.

Greetings
Mike, have you tested the Phluid on Echo brakes? They're pretty prone to damage when run on anything aside mineral oil.
Phatmike
I've not, and I'm keen to. Any volunteers? Do you know what tends to go on the brakes when they're run with water? At a guess it would be aluminium corrosion from tap water, which Phluid should stop. One of the main ingredients in Phluid is distilled from mineral oil, but that doesn't mean much with regard to Echo brakes without actually testing it! 6ft-midget
I always thought that it was because something to do with the seals and that water was thin enough to leak out but oil couldn't. Probably completely wrong but hey-ho

Ha ha, i'm still going to go with syrup from tinned strawberry's mixed with a bit of 'burn your throat out 30 seconds afterwards' Though that could have been down to testing PHluid mk.1 just a couple of minutes before. Phatmike
Ah yes, I forgot to add, I actually joined in with Kris in the taste testing. He says strawberry I say cherry. Again I must stress: Don't drink it, it is dangerous!

Krisboats
Again I must stress: Don't drink it, it is dangerous! I'm not sure, i think my tolerance to cold has gone up since drinking it. Maybe look into flavourings and branch into human antifreeze for the upcoming cold spell next week
krazykid009
I'm liking the fact this has turned into a taste thread I will place an order when I get payed without a doubt now, if it is as awesome as it looks, then it will be one hell of a product. Good work guys Thanks James
