The x-ray doesn't look as heavy as it is.

It's lighter than an Onza Comp frame, lighter than a FANS, etc. It's not a heavy frame at all, especially considering how cheap they are. That price is also why it isn't an all-singing, all-dancing CNC'd behemoth. It's just a simple frame with some gussets where they're needed, and 'plain' tubing. It's difficult to really do much more at that price point...

Would it be possible to photograph the underside of the downtube to show the 'ripple' on the Born? Also dont understand what is meant by Hydro-formed ? Going to see what the slate 3 is like, then decide between that, the born and maybe the slate 2 :P. X-Ray looks cool in black though and the because is just beast for the price (Y).

Hydroforming: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroforming

Your decision will need to be between the Born and the Slate 3, as the Slate 2 is discontinued (replaced with the 3).

Oh right ok, saw they were labelled as "On Order" still so thought they may still be available. Thanks alot for the pic (was it on the website? didnt look hard enough i guess), and cheers for the link to hydroforming, i guess the metal is heated first to make it more durable? The ripple only goes down like 30cm on the down tube (by the looks of things)? I guess the triangle shape of the ripple increases the strength, therefore reducing chance of denting? Seems alot of design thought has gone into this, along with the triangular chainstays etc, all using stronger shapes than standard tubing. Leaning more towards the born now :P.

Thanks for your help Adam.

Sorry if it didn't come through right , was trying to say it looks like it would be like the lightest trials frame ever just looking at the tubing and such. Like sayyyy... the Rockman Bjorn looks a lot bulkier and as if i would weigh more but surprisingly not blushing.gif

EDIT: Oh fair enough didn't see what it's made out of, you still get my point right? :P

Yeah that's so people can set up a stock update request for when the 3 is in. The pic is in the 2010 version of the frame. The metal isn't heated, as that would make it weaker. Yeah the ripple isn't all the way. Yes, as it states, the triangular shaped chainstays are to help resist denting. It seems like it's had a lot of thought gone into it, yeah, wouldn't be my personal choice but that's the beauty of so many frame designs being available now!
